Default Leland West Insurance

Just a quick report and (another) thumbs up for Leland West insurance. I just replaced Haggerty at $1,340 per year with Leland West at $890. That's about a 30% savings. I was with Haggerty for a few years and they bumped the premium every year by $30 or $50. I did give them an opportunity to revisit my policy and offer a better deal and they passed.

The LW covereage is identical to Haggerty in every way and includes a $48,000 agreed value. They are very easy to deal with and very thorough - they even have a live body that answers the phone in CA. A nice touch.

What restrictions on mileage, etc do you have? This appears much cheaper than my current policy with StateFarm (I know, not even near the cheapest place to start with...).

Keith,

Sorry, forgot about that.

For me 3,000 miles a year is more than enough and what my policy is for. The car is garaged six months of the year due to weather anyway.

The policy includes "occasional pleasure and work" driving and the car must be stored in an enclosed and locked garage.

Mine is $50.00 a month, for a aggreed value of $40,000. Five thousand miles/year, same occational work/trip. They wanted pictures of the car and also the garage.
Very nice to work with. mark

I use Parish Heacock they have been great to work with would suggest you try them at least for a price quote to keep all options open.

Two questions, just to clarify, agreed value in total loss is payout amount. THis is what you want, correct, as opposed to 'stated' value?

Hmm what happens if you get 20,000 worth of damage and the agreed value is 40,000. Or to make it really ugly, 30,000 worth of damage. I know, I could be a lot happier if I didn't think up awkward questions.

I use LW also.

$60K agreed value - if the car is totaled or stolen I get a check for $60K

Unlimited milage.

Allowed 2 commute to work days a week.

$700/year incluing roadside assistence.

State farm was @ $390/year, but only "stated value."

Full coverage, $500 deductibale, $500K liabilty.

I carry an umbrella with extra liabilty from SF.

Correct.

I pay $1100 annually on $62K as agreed value with 5K miles allowed annually with American Collectors which is an arm of Geico. If I recall Leland was lower than Hagerty when I was shopping during my Hargety renewal period but Leland was really weird about me doing the occasional drive to work with my 993.

You guys are SOOO spoiled. Up here in BC, with a very good driving record, pleasure only, 5000miles/year, a very good price is $1700 year. If you drive it to work, it goes up. If you have more than one ticket, it goes up. If you have an accident that is your fault, it goes up. Guys are paying $2500 year or more.

Funny thing, when I sold the Targa and bought the Turbo, my insurance went down $80/year.

So $50/month sounds pretty good to me.

Cheers,

Mike

Depending on how you use your car, can't beat Barrett Jackson insurance through Chartis. Just a few hundred/year for $60,000 agreed value.

What happens if the car is stolen from an unlocked garage like at a hotel or outside a motel or restaurant, etc?

^^ worth asking and if the answer is not want you want to hear look elsewhere. That makes no sense that it would not be covered in the instances Cupcar mentions above
