A few thumbs up in the 993, but my '51 International Harvester gets crazy attention. A trip to the hardware store turns into a half hour conversation with 3 different people. Normally its fun and nice to talk, but it's to the point where if I'm having a rough day I won't even drive it because of all the idiotic people and questions I get. i.e. "does that thing have nitrous? (no, just cubic inches), "wana race?"(no, I will smoke your ***), "I used to have one just like it" (no you didn't, it's a one off)

Where I live it seems to be most ********?

-Wanna race..?
-Once had a faster car than your´s..
..and so on..

In every red light people think we are going to compete...even bikers think that...

On the highway people seems to run as fast as the can passed me, and then just turn in front of me and stay there...???

A biker with a new plastic rocket..(Hayabusa or something like that).. was making jokes of my car and told me he would outrun me anytime...-ha ha ha...

I felt this time got to end the conversation!!

-HELL yeah, we are going to race!!! At one condition.... I pick the day and track...Okay??

Now wasn´t smiling so much...and start looking around his mates...

-What do you mean..?

-Well, I´m going to call you up the rainiest day this summer, when a real thunderstorm is here...then we are going to do 25 laps at a serpent conetrack that I will put out in the local airfield...still interested?

Now he didn´t look so funny anymore, and left quiet...with his friends laughing..

My latest retort is that the depreciation on that "new" car (whatever the make, but in the six-figure range) could buy mine next year. Only a slight exaggeration.

My friends always offer me twice what I paid for it. No great deal since I picked it up for $3K.

Was out and parked near a new Mini and the guy got out and was admiring my car. He said the car looked great and asked what year. When I said '95, I thought he was going to fall over doing a double take. I've had a number of people say, "awesome car" at stop lights.

"picked it up for $3k". Please, share your story of the bargain of the century.

On my way to work I occasionally stop at a drive through coffee shop near my house. The girl who works there is very cute and always very nice at that early hour. She is about ten years younger than my daughter. One day I drove the Porsche and when she came to the window I asked if I could have a coffee with a little cream. She said, "In that car you can have anything you want." Then we both laughed and she got me my coffee.

I usually only get comments when I have the rack on my car with two hockey bags and 4 sticks.

Oddly enough, people love to talk to me about my recently purchased 1999 VW Eurovan. Strange but true.

I get countless "what year is that"...and of course a host of idiots in VWs with fart can exhausts blasting by me on the highway.

The only time someone propositioned me to sell was in the 3.2 I was driving up the 101 (top down) between Palo Alto and Mountain View when a ratty old van pulls up to my right...he rolls down his window and yells "nice car, how much do you want for it?" I yell, "not for sale!" He yells, "$15k!" "Sorry, not for sale." "$20k!" "Not for sale" "Alright, have a good one!"

I get alot of questions and compliments due to the colour (Av Green), what year, what model and lots of thumbs up. I've had a few young guys chase me down on the 400 series hwys up here roll down the window and scream "awesome".

Best was an older gent in a beautiful 997 TT cab who pulled up at a stop light asked what year it was and prcoeeded to tell me selling his 993 years earlier was a huge mistake! oh and lots of "enjoy it" as well which in this day and age is really nice to hear.

I get lots of positive comments and thumbs up from all sorts of people both in parking lots and on the road. Been that way since I had my 964 and has not gone away with the 993. Most interesting/maybe disturbing are two occurrences of people actually taking pictures of the car. One was at a stop light and another on the freeway. These cars are truly special.

3 months ago I pulled into a Chevron gas station, directly behind a beautiful lime gold 991 that was filling up. He recognized the sound of the engine and whipped around and smiled. We talked for several minutes and he said "don't ever sell it, I sold mine and I regret it to this day. The new ones are great, but it's just not the same feeling you get from air cooled."

I was driving my 1971 Targa on the freeway when a cop pulled alongside me, got on his bullhorn, and said, "Do you know your Porsche smokes at 80 miles per hour?"

I gave him a wave and a **** eating grin as he drove on.
