Question 993 Steering Wheel Options

The stock 4-spoke steering wheel feels a bit large and thin to me. I'd prefer a wheel that has a smaller diameter, as well as a larger grip. I also want a wheel with an airbag. I thought I read that besides the 996 wheel, a Boxster wheel until model year 2003 wheel work.

What are the diameters of the 996 and Boxster wheels? Are their grips somewhat larger than the 993 wheel? Does anything special need to be done to install them on a 993? Are there any other options?

Thanks

Sorry if this has been covered previously; I did do a search, but couldn't quickly find information on wheel diameters and thickness'.

I think the 3 spoke and 4 spoke are the same diameters.

The 3 spoke steering wheel is 375mm. I think it's the same diameter as the 4 spoke one, and Pelican Part tech said so.

3 and 4 spokers are the same. If you want a smaller one with thicker diameter and airbag you can look at the Atiwe Raid line of wheels. Ruf and TechArt use them as well. I'm personally not a fan since they look decidedly aftermarket.

I had the Silberpfeil... here's another member's thread about his.

I loved it. It didn't look out of place IMO. The reduced diameter was perfect for driving, and to give me more leg room for clutching/braking. I liked the thickness too.

I went through that thread; thanks for the heads up.

Thanks; I may consider the 340mm Silberpfeil.

You mentioned you loved it (past tense). Did you replace it, or no longer have the car? I like that you can get an additional spacer to put the wheel a bit closer.

I have the DCT modified 3 spoke and like it very much. Smaller diameter and significantly thicker than the stock wheels. It does block more of the instrument dials but the improved feel is worth the trade.

That's very nice! It looks like the diameter is the same as the 993/996, but has a flat bottom and thicker rim. Where did you get it?

I would buy the Gemballa steering wheel from "eatbreathedrive". It's an absolute steal at less than 600 USD. This is BTW the same wheel as the Techart one, very nice thick grip.

Actually there is a GT3 option wheel called "CPZ". Was like $600 option and it is a thicker grip than the normal 996 wheel. Pretty rare. And I have one

Very nice wheel.

Does it come with the airbag, or does that need to be purchased seperately?
Is this wheel positioned any closer to the driver than the stock wheel? Do you know if a spacer can be used to get the wheel any closer to the driver?

Airbag needs to be purchased. They pop up frequently on eBay and that is where I purchased mine. Shout out to the guys at DCT - they are very helpful.
