Trip computer was optional in most markets. Some models had it as standard equipment depending on market.

I'm with Goofball, more pics please!

Great pics! I have a Canadian car with OBC.

That radio looks great, although I've heard that the buttons are quite plasticky and the fit/finish just isn't worth the insane price that Porsche asks for it. What are your thoughts on it?

US cars only came standard with the OBC if they were turbo or tiptronic, if I recall correctly.

It's the one option I wish my car had (but it doesn't). The retrofit is expensive and looks like a more of a pain in the *** than it needs to be, so I don't expect I'll be doing it.

Yeah, looks like that great radio won't work in the U.S., from what I could gather. Darn; it sure looks great

The On-Board Computer was optional in North America; Option code 659 was $352.00 USD in May 1997 for a MY98 993 C2S.

I ordered the OBC as part of an effort to spec the C2S step for step with the TT sans the turbo and 4wd. The OBC does come in handy as the MPG algorithm is on par with paper & pencil arithmetic.. although its usually parked on the speedometer function.

Lemme see, what's the actual MPG in real time for this sports car.... Ok, reading 25MPG was an eye opener..

Both my coupe and cab have the OBC. The only thing I use it for is "miles to empty".

Regards,

Strange, because I looked at many N/A cars when I bought my car back in 2006/7 and I do not recall seeing any with the OBC option. On the other hand all TT's came standard with OBC as far as I know...

OBC is standard on 964T/993TT because it shows boost levels.

I find a lot of options are country related as to how common they are. In Holland the OBC is quite rare 'cause we are cheap, except on tips as its free. In France almost all cars have OBC although it was an option, and the French liked the X51 package as well. German cars maybe 50/50 and only to check topspeed, and the Italians, well they love their gadgets so quite common on those Italian (red off course) 993's.

I would really like to have it on my own 993, checked the DIY for a retrofit but so much work!

I stumbled on the DIY from p-car a few days ago to add this option as I really like the OBC, especially coming from audi A4's; its always nice to have extra information. Im confident in being able to do this myself, so next step was pelicanparts.com to find the tach.

http://bit.ly/17s8PbK

$1600 dollars just for the tach. I'm sure that might be reasonable due to the age of the car and rarity of the part, but I think I will spend that money on other mods.

Looks great though!
