Well, we got a car! A clean 2008 with 22,000 miles, private deal, very clean PPI. Car's name is "Bee" ( like bumble bee or Beatrice - not sure which. 
). We had some issues with registration given you need a CA licence to do that, but my daughter now has her temporary licence, so was able to register the car, so with some insurance she is now on the road ...

I am sure that she is privy to all the secrets, given she has worked for them full-time for 2 days now (not counting two summers of course).
