Default Newbie to Porsche & 993

Hi, great forum, been using it as a reference quite a bit!
I'm brand new to Porsche and this will be my first porsche purchase. I think I'm settled on the 993 based on some local test drives.
Could I get some experienced advice on what you all think about this potential car?
1995 911 Cab w/ 41k miles, manual for $34,888; Dark Blue/tan

Here's the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...t_44283wt_1165

I'm leary of an ebay motor purchase just b/c I've never done it before.
Based on an experienced eye from everyone.....any red flags I should be concerned with? Any common pitfalls with this type of purchase or specifically this car?
What would be a fair price to offer them?
Thanks for any input and I hopefully will soon be a more active forum participant rather than just a sideline reader

At a glance it looks nice. My absolute favorite color combo. Appears stock. Price is reasonable given the mileage assuming there are no stories. Get someone nearby to do a Rennfax after you look at a carfax. Then if it all looks good do a PPI. Forget eBay. It's just a way to advertise. Call the dealer directly and ask lots of questions. Good luck.

First, this forum is the best. Lots of info and great community.

Second, make a PPI on the car. Theses cars car be expensive to repair, despite low mileage. Check on Google the usual things to look at when you purchase (commun problem like. oil leak, door strap, rust on windshield, etc). And check expensive things like shock, plugs and wire, brakes, etc. Finally, check maintenance records.

You made a good choice with 993 and with rennlist!

That is the best color combo ever put on a Porsche, so good there. Price for mileage seems a bit under market for a dealer, so I start to question. Also, statements like "wheels free from any major curb damage" seem to be mumbo jumbo to me.

Wasnt there question on non-disclosed accident damage with a car at Top Gear recently? I may be mistaken, but something rings a bell.

But, it may be fine. You need eyes on this, amd the PPI. Good luck.

Ed makes alot of sense other than his first statement...
I thought the same about, "price for mileage seems a bit under market for a dealer, so I start to question."

Top gear gets some good cars and some bad. They aren't doing 6 million point inspections on them, so you need to do your due diligence.

+993

Not to say the price is an instant red flag, but I'd say it's an instant yellow flag. Dealers like Top Gear are in tune with the 993 market, and there has to be *a* reason they've priced this car @ $34k. Maybe it's a reason you're comfortable with, maybe it's not, but there's almost certainly a reason.

i think that price is about right. doesnt seem too low by any means, esp if it were a coupe. its just a 40,000 mile C2. maybe a little high since its a cab? but its in the right ballpark i feel like...

Definitely seems a bit low especially for a dealer and especially Top Gear. It's a fairly lightly optioned car with no heated seats, Motorsound, or HiFi, so that could account partially for the lower price. As others have said, get a PPI and do your homework.

Good Luck!

Nonsense...C2 Coupes generally the least expensive of the models since they built the most of them...certainly smaller market for Cabs, but prices have been holding solid for them.

To be clear, this is probably a market price for a private party sale but definitely a price below what Top Gear would usually ask for, IMO.
