Nothing specific - just that I really want a C2S not a 4S. It needed the front bumper repainting and it's had a full respray (with no history of why) but it drove very nicely and had $18k worth of work carried out on it in the last 18 months or so. I think I still have the list of what if you're interested?

If it's not too much trouble to post the list of work that would be very nice! I've been looking for a 993 since almost buying a 97 C4S in my mechanic's shop (owner decided to keep). My mechanic advises a 95 993 might be a better buy due to the OBD issues . . . especially in California where you can't register the car if it won't pass the smog test. I'm interested in other people's view on buying a 95 vs. 96-98?

I have not driven a varioram car but I sure love my 95C4. The previous owner says he likes the motor in my car better than his C4S. He dyno'd it at 250WHP with no top end work needed at 120k miles. It gives you a huge push about 4500 rpm which is supposedly less in his C4S. My engine has 125k miles now and just passed a full leak down within factory spec. He said he wouldn't even want to touch the bottom end for fear it would be worse (I am sure it was a bit of an exaggeration.

Why not buy a nice C2? See: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...-upgrades.html it seems like a nice car if you like the colour.

Born in the Midlands (Derby), but grew up just North of Liverpool (Southport). Had a TVR Chimaera for 3 years or so before leaving the UK for Singapore in 2004. Been in Northern California now since the end of 2006.

If your car is in good working order, it should pass smog. The only reason to prefer 95 is that it doesn't trigger the CEL due to SAI as its OBDI, not OBDII which reports this code. (Worst case you can clean out the SAI passages yourself if you are somewhat handy or pay ~$1000 for a mechanic.) This is a little like the boogieman, where the fear of it is much worse than the reality. Just buy a well maintained car over a particular model year. If its such a big issue, 95s in CA should command a premium price (not true) or you'd only see 95s here (not true).

Also, search here on RL993 forum. This has been debated a million times already.
