Porsche Values 993 vs 930

All comes down to the basic law of economics, supply and demand.
As supply decreases and demand increases, price goes up.
Just like the 993, the 930 has its own fan base. Two different cars, I love the 930 looks, but I prefer a more civilized car with AC etc...
Interestingly, the NA 993 has the same advertised HP ratings that the 79 911 Turbo did.
A few tweeks though and the 930 can be a fire breathing monster though. I have a friend with a "slightly" modified 79 turbo, and it is truly a beast. A definite street rocket. Definitely not for everyone, certainly not me.

My 2 cents...
The 930s is an icon, but:
- supply and demand favor 993tt, more 930 produced than 993tt
- 10 years of production for ROW, compared to 3 years with 993tt
- less reliable (on average)
- Rough cars, much harder to use as a DD or on long drives. Drive the 2, you'll see.
- Many old NA 911 have a whaletail, so the 930 is less "different". There are not much "look alike" 993tt because you need to alter a C2S or C4S to make something decent.
I like the 930 a lot but I passed on one because of useability (kids in the back seat and daily driving).
This is a different beast, especially for 3.6. Still rough cars but theses are very rares and attractives. Never driven one and never saw a local one for sale.
Someone want to trade a 965 3.6 with my tt for a weekend pleeeaaase?

One more thing that made me pass on buy a 930 several times....NO AIRBAGS!!!
Sorry guys, just don't feel safe driving w/o good safety. And I drive my 993 alot.
Looked for a 965, but the prices were already way high.

You are still 75% unprotected then. I never felt unsafe in an older car without airbags. The thing that always crosses my mind is getting t-boned by a Suburban, or rear-ended by a Hummer.

I'll be honest, 930s are fun to look at and think about, but they are dog**** to drive.
they are not fast in stock form, are a bitch to drive smoothly due to the turbo lag, and that shifter is a big bag of meh.
overrated to the max.

Yeah...that turbo is tricky to drive. I sampled it a bit. Lift off after boost in any corner is SCARY. You just don't have the power to plant the rear anymore.
But I do LOVE the fender flares and what the car is. I wear, in black, it looked meaner than Lord Darth Varder himself.

Do you have some examples of the sample which has led you to conclude that "993TTs still command more than 964 Turbos?"
Here's another "overpriced example" of a 964 Turbo (with a current price of $135K).

I would think going back to the old torsion bar "rock hard" suspension with a "wait for it" turbo would be novel for awhile but would get old quick! There is a paint to sample orange one in our area that is absolutely stunning!

Does anybody else remember the member about a year ago who posted all the 911s he had owned in his life. It was about 20 or 30. He bought them all new - on his birthdays. He listed them all - it was quite impressive list and someone asked him his fav - to me that was a great question and I remember waiting with a great deal of curiosity to see what car might have stood out. And it was indeed the 930. If my memory serves me correctly, it was in fact the rawness of the turbo lag he found endearing.

So now we are torsion bar bashing? I've always like the saying "there are two kinds of drivers: those that can drive a 911, and those that can't".
A well sorted 911 of pre-89 1/2 vintage has nothing to be embarrassed about. Stone Age? No PS? No A/C? The point is being missed by many.
