Yesterday, I zig-zagged all across SE Oregon, SW Idaho, and Northern Utah. I had a great time, saw few other cars, and found some great roads. This is along Rte 7 in SE Oregon. More later

Then south along CO193 to go through Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs, Vail, etc..... Ran into heavy rain, so no other pics...

Rolled into a hotel here in Peoria, and right behind me was a bunch of dudes on Harleys sporting "Sons of Silence" colors.... Figured the local brothers would be hosting guys like that.... I'll steer clear.... And WHEN are we going to get those "Rouges of Rennlist" colors ready?

I vote for a credit card as our logo. Perhaps if we don't use the website color scheme we could opt for the Master Card colors?

The run from Denver to KC was quite interesting.... I headed east on I-70 for a few miles, jumping onto US 36 at Byers. I had just settled in for the STRAIGHT trip across the fruited plain when, cresting a smile rise, I see just ahead...... A TRACK(!), with cars on it..... I had no idea the place was there:

They were having a mixed open track day... Sport bikes, a bunch of highly tuned Mitsubishi's, a brace of track prepped GT-R's, an old Alpine Tiger with a cage and slicks, and a couple of latest generation BOSS 302s..... Talked to some folks, ate a giant trackside breakfast burrito, and headed on across the vastness that is eastern Colorado and western Kansas.

I then found THIS!!!! It is such a cliched joke, in so many pop culture references (The Simpson's for example) that I was surprised that such a thing actually exists.....

I have enjoyed two nice days in KC, with drinks and live music last night at The Majestic, dinner and drinks at Extra Virgin planned for tonight, followed by music and drinks at The Phoenix..... And I will be on the road again tomorrow....

One thing I love about getting off the beaten path out west is that, in the rocks and mountains and deserts, one sees the very bones of the planet..... Getting into the Midwest and continuing eastward, one starts to find the bones of America..... The people who are attached to the land, coaxing sustenance for all of us from the soil, living unglamourous, un fancy, yet probably very satisfying lives..... I have no real desire to live this life for myself, but some inspiration can be found in those living this rhythmic life, the tempo set by the sun and the seasons...... And the small-town folks, the citizens of the middle cities.... Solid people, solid world view, certainly not trouble free, but seemingly less neurotic, less externally focused.... This strong core seems, at least to me from behind the windshield of the 993 as it unreels before me, to still be there, maybe able to help keep a balance and resilience that can save us from any crisis....

So, the second half of the trip got very boring. After two nice days in Kansas City, I needed to get to Greensboro, NC pretty quickly. The weather was crappy, so I decided to just stick to the I-roads, except for a short detour down to Jefferson City, MO to pick up MO HWY 9 towards St. Louis, I ended up just grinding it out all the way to Lexington.

It was the same thing the next day, with rain heavy enough to take the fun out of trying to cut through the Appalachians, I did a second day schlubing along with the trucks and the sedans...

Today is the last leg of the trip. I'll head up towards Danville, and if I am ahead on time, I'll stop by VIR to see if anything is going on. I'll be back there at the end of the month for DE.

The car has run perfectly, not one problem at all, and it just went over 125,000 miles. 993 karma says that if you have all belts, relays, and tools WITH you, nothing will happen. If any one item is left at home in the garage, that item will break....
