now, my low mile 993 takes 0W-40.
but im told my high mileage 993 should take 5W-40.
what would 15W-50 be used for?

This is why we use Mobil-1 15w-50 oil... https://rennlist.com/forums/10506792-post7.html
Check out the latest issue of Excellence for a good discussion on oils suited for air/oil cooled cars.
They recommend a minimum ZDDP level of 1200-1700 ppm for wear protection and long engine life.

Also check out the Mobil 1 "Turbo Diesel Truck" in 5w/40 ...it's the line right below the 15w/50 that Ted highlighted. It's got a zinc at 1200 (prettty close to the 1300 of the 15w/50), and is likewise SN rated. FWIW, I use one full walmart 5qt jug of 15w and mix in one full walmart 4qt jug of the 5w turbo diesel truck. Add a tad more of the 15w to top off and that's my oil change! My car no longer is tracked and is simply a freeway DD. I am currently at around 144K miles and my '95 has the exact same oil consumption today as she did when I got her at 50K miles (about 1 quart/2500 miles). Having read up on the benefit of a lighter weight oil on engines (yes, even aircooled ones), unless someone offers me some compelling reasons to go back to pure 15w/50, I think this is also good formula (and certainly preferable to Porsche's recommendation of 0W/40 in the aircooled cars!!).

The charts are contradictory.
Mobil 1 racing 4t 10w40 has a zinc ppm of 1700 on one chart and 1300 on the other.
I would like to try the 0W one day, since starting the motor, is where the engine suffers most
AND THE PRICE OF 22.24 FOR 5 QUARTS ?
well this makes me sad.
that is exactly 16.68 euros
For us to acquire the same jug, we have to shoot 52 euros out of the pocket, or $68.64
And at the rate of 45% income tax, I thought I could have a garage in a house one day
