I understand your thought process, but dont necessarily agree.

If I am looking for a car, with cash in hand, I bypass For Sale adds such as this because I have better things to do with my time, than to try to bring sellers with such lofty aspirations, back to reality.

$10k over normal pricing is not worth my time, effort, or a second glance.

I would agree with this. I bought a car recently and I wouldn't have looked at this because the gap is just to big to bridge between what you're asking for the car and what its worth. Then again, maybe it'll work for somebody else.

There are plenty of buyers out there that always wanted a Poorsh that won't know the market and be willing to pay that for a clean 993.

Thanks for all the input regarding price. I will lower my asking price on AutoTrader.

Your decision was a good one and will help you sell your beautiful car. You and may others struggle with pricing a car to sit or to sell.

those types of people don't buy 993s.

they buy 996s if they are looking for lowest cost of entry, and 997s if they want prestige and such.

I agree with both of these comments.

Pretty funny, I know guys going the other way as well - its like Musical Chairs! What was the driver for this change in direction?

Good luck with the sale, you have seen the comments on pricing but it's your car so its your price to ask. Good luck!

Cheers,

Mike

I went the other way. I sold my 2006 Cayman S over a year ago and started the long search for a 993. I loved having a Porsche but the Cayman S was depreciating fast and that would only accelerate when the newer model came out(this may be wrong given the price of new Cayman S's). I wanted something I could use relatively lightly that wouldn't depreciate so fast but still felt special when taken out. In the end the 993 gets a level of love that's hard to fathom from the public at large. I have gotten pulled over for speeding and was given a warning which was a relief. On the not great side, I was pulled over when not speeding just for the officer to take a look at the car. People ask about it all the time at gas stations or car parks. It's hard to explain how special it feels compared to a Cayman S.

For the thread's history, the OP lowered the price to $47,500.

Nice car, I really love the guards red rear quarter photos when the paint is that nice. Beautiful!

I would reconsider that "upgrade".

Although it was said in reference to Geology, in the movie Shawkshank Redemption, the quote applies here too: "all it takes is pressure and time."

I sold my '87 911 two years ago and put a stong price of $27k on it. It was in very good shape mechanically and cosmetically, but it was no cream puff. Did I think it would fetch that - nope. Did people tell me I was nuts - yes. Did I get numerous offers of 10k less - yes. Did the car sell for my full asking price - yup.

My thought pattern was this - I wanted a 993. I put a price on my '87 that I could live with. If it sold - great. If it didn't - well that's great too. I loved the car and the only way I was going to get rid of it was if I could get a strong price to help me jump to a 993.
