Default So I took my 993 to get the clicking door straps fixed.. $310 later... Need advice!

So yesterday I gave my 993 to a shop in Tampa, Chilly Performance, for them to repair the door strap clicking problem. They quoted me $240 for the weld/repair. The car wasn't finished that day, so i had to get it the next day. When I went by, they told me they had to replace the actual door straps to because my old ones were worn. ($70) which was fine. They pinch weld the strap and put a bummer in each of the door.

It sounds quieter then before, but it is still apparent. Here's what is use to sounds like before and after their repair.

Before:

After:

The guy was really nice, great atmosphere! But then they said they have to drill to holes and another weld inside. Not sure how to explain it, but they said that should silence the problem. This would cost another - $ 320 - 350 dollars.
The sound is not that bad, just thought when I get a quote it should be around there, not double the price of what was originally said. I have lived with this sound for 6 years, so fed up with it.

The Porsche dealer told me it was 850 for everything, kinda wish i just went there.

What do you guys thank?

Holy crap! They charge you that and it's still not fixed? If you had mod the check strap itself, you'll reduce the tension exerted on the weld inside the door frame. That didn't look like anything was welded to me.

There are lots and lots of threads here on how to properly repair the door check strap. Why didn't you just email the guy a link to one of the threads, and say "How much to do this?"

One should never assume a body guy or mechanic instinctively knows how to repair a problem, especially when it's a specialty problem like the check strap on a 993. It's your job to provide guidance.

You're ride that may have been a better idea. It's too late now. They specialize in Porsches and I got recommended the place by a guy on rennlist. I asked if they have fixed door straps before and he said they do it alot. I guess it was my mistake.

If I remembered correctly, didn't you post a question/vid on this several weeks ago? If so, I'm sure we would have given you some advice on how to address this issue. I feel really bad for you, but that looks like a real mess. Looks like they shimmed the area with something black and rubbery, then slapped some tar on top.

Looks like he just threw some grease on it and called it a day. They couldn't have thought that was an actual fix. I'd try to get your money back and then get someone who knows what they're doing to fix it. Good luck!

Yes, i did post about this. And all you guys had a great advice. There were different ways that was posted on there that looked great! I just assumed an experience Porsche mechanic who tells me they have done them before knows what's best. I guess I know now. I will most likely go back on Monday or Tuesday to complain.
