They paid $48,000 and now they're offering it for $59,000. They're attempting to make a profit.

Making a profit is what businesses do There is virtually no wholesale market for 993's, so dealers must pay retail and mark them up. They almost always add $10K to what they bought them for - sometimes more.

Perfect lesson for those on the hunt for a 993 (or 964/3.2 etc). If you're looking for a good private deal, you must be ready to act fast. If you don't, somebody else will. That somebody else might be a dealer who remarkets the car for a healthy profit (like Onami says, that's what business is all about).

The Tip part makes it a tougher sell for sure. But low miles (21K) and a rare colour combo (black interior a big bonus) are BIG bonuses. NBs can fetch the big bucks too.

so, what is a 21K mile turq blue 1998 c2s with a 6-speed worth? I'm sure I'd be happy with a nice 993 turbo for that asking price.

I actually considered buying this car for $48K, but I just couldn't get my head around that big wing! If it was a little cheaper, I would have bought it and put an RS wing on it. I still perfer a manual, but I'm getting older and a tip doesn't bother me like it used to

This dealer is local to me.

They price their cars high, don't deal and their cars don't sit in their place very long.

Bottom line - they are experienced buyers and sellers who know what they need to pay to make a profit.

But we all occasionally make mistakes. Offers at $55K is very surprising. The Tip and that wing are hard to overcome.

As to the theoretical Turq Blue 98 C2S 6-speed, its WORTH what someone would be willing to pay. Having said that I'd bet a dealer would ask high $70s, maybe more for such a car.

I know people, myself included, like to play the "you could easily get x for that money" game. There is definitely overlap with models. There are NBs that command more money than WBs and WBs that demand more maney than Turbos. Heck there are some NBs that command more money than Turbos. Condition, mileage, equipment, history come into play to determine a given car's "worth". There are several niche models within the 993 range, each with their own appeal.
