What would RL do? (thread #34139)

Judging from your blog (just found it this week -- awesome job), you seem to really love working on the car. When I bought my 993 last year, I thought hard about what I really wanted. Did I want a track toy, did I want something beautiful, did I want bragging right? While all those sound good, I realized what I really wanted was something I could improve - a hobby that keeps me entertained.
Maybe you got near perfection too "easily" with your C4S? Maybe what you need is an older 911 (or other car) in worse shape.
When it comes to buying things, I love re-reading this post on lifehacker: http://lifehacker.com/5918864/buying-happiness.
And if you're curious, here's how I applied that post to my 993 purchase: http://www.twofourthsfull.blogspot.c...happiness.html

Which way? Not getting that "250 mile a month to increase life expectancy" thing. I've revised "life" to allow me to pound that many miles a week on the 4S again. While I've driven mine in fits-and-spurts, in the nearly 9 years/50K I've owned it, what have I spent on it? $3K? (Outside of fuel and insurance.) There's $3K in deferred maintenance I need to get to some time, but still.
Funnyism of last week. Guy in a new didn't-even-have-plates Boxster comments he wishes he could have bought an "old classic" like mine, but couldn't afford it nor justify such an old car to his wife. Uh huh.

Supercharge your 993C4S and save yourself the transaction and sorting out a new car costs. Easy to revert back to stock and also get most of your money back on the supercharger if you ever sell.
Much cheaper than getting into a daily turbo. I lurked for 2 years for the right 993 turbo before pouncing on the car. Not sure how many of good driver 993 turbos are around you will find at a decent price.

You would never get your money back turbo charging the car and limit the buyer pool drastically when selling as it cannot be reverted back to stock. If you really want a turbo, then sell the car and buy a turbo.

Thanks again for all the words of wisdom!
I'm still posing and answering some questions so I'm not 100% sure what
the outcome will be, and I'm in no rush... I do know that I ruled out the 997TT
and the "museum piece 993" option.
This x993!!!!
Just to clear up what I meant by a "driver" 993 Turbo. I will be looking at
cars with 60K+ miles that I won't feel guilty about driving. I'm not looking
for a daily driver 993TT, just one that will spend its life on a twisty road on
the weekends, not in a ZipLock bag inside a garage (not that there is
anything wrong with that!!).

I just voted for #2. I completely understand. Im almost at that point with my C4S. I love it but there is nothing else to do to it other than a euro front bumper. I had the same problem with my first 993 after I did a ton of stuff to it.

Or nab a 997 Carrera S or C4S!
If you are worried about potential age related or 993 specific issues then perhaps hopping into a 997 (newer interior, improved handling and performance) might be the right solution.
Depends on your budget and overall feeling towards the 993 vs 997 debate (if there is any...).

UPDATE: Many questions have been posed and answered.. I decided to
keep the car! If an opportunity arises and I sell, it will be replaced with a 993 Turbo.

Glad to hear you are keeping your car. It is beautiful and has some nice mods.
Maybe you should consider removing the front drive. You might find the car feel a little faster.

I was in the same boat. After 2 964s and a 993 I was looking for something else... Sold the 993, got a 997TT. Very, very happy with it. While generally I put about 3500 miles a year on my previous Porsches I've driven the 997TT for 6000 miles in the last 3.5 months. Love every minute of it!
At the end of the day it's a personal decision and we all experience satisfaction in different ways. For me, life is too short to own the same toy car for too long.
Good luck with your decision.
