Hi,
Since I changed my cone filter back to the original filter I have the above mentioned problem. I went to my local specialist en he hooked the car up to the porsche tester but no problems were found, these items were checked:
-Lambda sonde, readings were good
-MAF sensor OK, 1.0 Volts
-Vacuum, all there
-Distributor cap and rotor are only 15000 KM old
-Last year I replaced the HT leads (the set supplied bij Alex, via this forum)
-Knock sensor, OK
Once the car is full throttle there seems to be no problem, strange.
So at the moment I am running out of options, do you have any suggestions where to look?

On a final attempt to fix the above mentioned problem I had a look at my dist. caps and rotors (I do change them every 20000 KM`s)...once I pulled the HT lead running from the HT coil to the dist. cap one end just fell apart, badly corroded & all green and white stuff inside the the plug as well on the dist.cap. Strange since I changed all the HT leads last year. Anyhow, changed both rotors and dist. caps. The car runs better now, but still there is a little hesitation around 3000 RPM...
Any thoughts on where to look next?

Problem solved, it turned out to be a bad CDI unit (located under the drivers seat close tot the DME unit). I got the replacement part from Beru:
Beru ZM 026.

This how it looks, and works. It gets two signals from the DME and the sends them to the HT coils.

John, there is no CDI in a 993.
The element you are talking about is the ignition switch (module) or technically the triggering switch.
It seems in the US 993, somewhere in the start of 1997, these switches were embedded in the ECU, for all ROW years, the switch was outside of the ECU, under driver seat.
