I'm planning on buying new tires for a new set of 17"s I just got for the '97 C2.

Any tips on brand, model and size?

The wheels say:
Front 7" 50
Back 9" 55

The existing tires say:
Front 205/50ZR17
Back 255/40ZR17

I'm in the same boat right now. I am also considering changing up to 18" twists (or should I keep my cup2's?)

I was looking at 225/45/17 front and 255/40/17 rear for a car used on the street. I figured adding some meat up front could help with understeer. As for tire model I was thinking Bridgestone RE11s (I drive 5000km a year and I will compromise longevity for performance).

 

Ive been happy with the Hankook Ventus V12evos. 18,000 miles and 14 track days, one set of front tires and two sets of rears. They arent the best tires for the track but I am still a novice so they have been fine for me.

Rodrigo, please describe what you'll use the tires for and what's important to you - you'll get good opinions.

EDoyle - your sizing idea is right. However, I'd not go with RE-11s. But the questions above apply.

 

In Texas I like the Dunlop Direzza ZII. Heat up nice and Just make the car stick. Tirerack had them to me the next afternoon, I could not believe it.

I'll be mostly driving in everyday traffic, and will do some highway driving occasionally. No track use.

I have Pirellis PZeros on my '10C2S and been very happy with them.

I think I had some Bridgestone tires on my '97 Targa, but I can't remember. They were 17"s for sure.

Another vote for the Hankook Ventus V12 evos

 

My 98 C2S came with Sumitomo HTR Z III's on 18" twists and I have been pleasantly surprised by them. They are very quite and comfortable and provide a lot grip during spirited driving. They are very inexpensive. TireRack shows them in the sizes that you need.

 

I just ordered Dunlop Direzza ZII's.... but then I want to shave a few seconds off my autocross times.

An excellent tire at a very resonable price, IMHO

 

I've come to love the Hankook V12's. After initial break in, they are excellent for the price.

 

My vote goes for 225's in the front and Direzza's . I had the Hancooks, great tire, but cant compare to the crispness, stick and feedback of the Direzza's. If you are on a budget, I guess the Hancooks will do.
