Picked up my car from Eurotech Advanced Automotive in Framingham today. I haven't driven my car since Nov '11 so this was a BIG day for me. I had some major engine maintenance done along with the installation of a Clewett kit. Gotta say, Bill Pfister is a real class act. I wont let anyone but Bill touch my car for the rest of my ownership. As someone who is in client service, he impressed me big time. Anyway see pics below!

Kevin,
Looks fantastic! I've wanted to install the Clewett belt kit for years... Maybe I'll order it, look at it for a few months, and then get it handled.

Andreas,

Peace of mind and simplicity are worth it. Bill gave me the belt code and prefaced it with "you'll never need this..." He builds race engines and said the setup is bullet proof.

It's very similar to the Porsche Motorsports version fitted to the 993 RSR. Very tasty.

WOW that is beautiful! I have just done a fan replacement due to cracks and replaced the belts retaining the out dated and awkward shim setup but yours looks fantastic, was it expensive?
I noticed the belt sensor is also gone, I assume belt failure is unlikely and if it ever happened, the charge light would come on, win-win...

Cheers

Yeah, since its a one belt set up for alternator and fan, you get the christmas tree lights if the belt breaks.

I don't particularly care for driving the alternator and the fan at the same speed, but always prefer a multi-rib serpentine belt.

Trouble is that this belt setup is STUPID expensive.

Why, what's the disadvantage? Wear on the alternator..? Why did Porsche design it as a two-belt system in the first place ..

BTW .. $615 for 993 with a/c ...

two belt system is to maintain voltage at idle and low rpm. Important when running headlights, stereo, etc at the same time.

I almost bumped your thread last week to see what was up with this!!! Was this installed engine in?

Is this any problem with the Clewett? I regularly use the A/C and stereo in hot weather.

It was installed engine out, but that was for other reasons... Engine in I think the quote was 5 hours. As for battery... I have a brand new alternator, trickle charge mine every night. I'm not too worried. If I sat in LA traffic everyday, maybe, but in that case I wouldn't be driving a 993.

+1.

This is an intriguing modification.

yes, it is cheaper than that, but serp. belts can still break as well.

see, $615+ 5 hours of labor is about $1200. That seems like a lot of cash to reduce the likelihood of an already rare belt failure.

I'm trying to figure out what you would be doing for 5 hours? Does that include a cryo cleanse of the undercarriage?
