Oil brand@weight?

If you do not want to add constructive input why waste the time of those who do? Sorry if I offended anyone with my? I do appreciate all the information this forum offers.

I think the problem stems from the frequency of this question. There are MANY threads on this subject. As I suggested earlier, perhaps a sticky at the top for this subject, as well as a few other regularly brought up topics, is in order. That way we don't end up in the seemingly inevitable "search 1st" complaints from long time members. It could also, hopefully, encourage newer members to post without getting barked at. This happens all too often lately and seems to have greatly reduced the open discussions.........silly when you see how many people are on here.
I think up to date information is always useful and continued discussion CAN bring updates to this topic. We just need to find a way to have civil conversations on these recurring questions.

My car has run Motul 300v 15w50 for most of its life (around 50k of its 62k). The engine is appart for a rebuild at the moment and when I opened it up the bearings were near perfect, the crank, cams etc looked brand new. When I sent the case to Ollies for machine work, they asked how old the engine was because it was so clean inside, they thought it was a 10k mile engine not a 62k engine.
For Steve W and any other engine experts on here, what kind of data do you have on low mile motors that were opened up vs. the brand and type of oil that might have been used for those few miles? Would you expect a low mile motor to be as clean as Trophy's internals if it had run Mobil 1 15w-50 or even 0w-40 for all its 62k mi life? At what point would using Mobil 1 15w-50 or even 0w-40 vs. the engine builder favorites cause catastrophic failure?
FWIW, I have been using Brad Penn 20w-50 for the last several years based on the advice of Steve W and Charles Navarro. And it's much cheaper than the others to boot. Used Mobil 1 15w-50 before that.

As my experience with low milers was exclusively during the pulled stud 2.7L era, I can say that I never saw any internal wear with the oils used during that era. And some of those cars maybe had 5 oil changes in nearly 50K miles.
My slam dunk, no questions where it had been since new engine was the one extracted from a one owner '79SC that came to me in '92 with 100K. This car was "loving" owned by a local heart surgeon neighbor, and had been serviced four times with six oil changes in its life to that point. (Including one top end for a puked tensioner.) It was basically never driven warm, as his commute was five miles. The black paint was so faded the roof was white. Etc. etc. But it was a $5K car (and he gave me the car, saying I could pay him when I could) in an era of even ratty SCs going for $10K+.
So, what did I find internally when the car was almost immediately completely disassembled? Bearings that could have been reused, along with cams and rockers that were amazingly good. Go figure......

Having lived there for a year I developed a taste for olive oil from Crete. Has a nice bite to it. Also recently discovered that Israel makes olive oil with a nice bite to it. Don't care for the ultra smooth olive oils from Italy and Spain. Forget any of the crap you can buy at your local grocery store or wholesale club.
Weird, I'm more critical and descriptive of my choice of olive oil than motor oil.

On the topic of oil. This and several other popular topics set off the forum police to remind others of the search function. I think if you feel the topic is so over done as oil just do not comment. All the jokes about peanut oil etc just waste time. A member takes time to write in I will give him a response if I know it even though it may have been written on many times before.

Has anyone used the Mobil 1 5 - 50? I have not seen this oil in their product guide in the past. Late model Porsche cars come factory filled with Mobil 1 0 - 40 and Mobil recommends 0 - 40 for all Porsche both air and water cooled. But I don't know of a Porsche that uses 5 - 50 and why this is in their product guide.
I would not use the Mobil 5W50 in the air cooled cars. I like the V-Twin for that duty. Easier to find too.
