Not sure what it is that you're asking.

Let's just hope it doesn't escalate from here to.........damaged crank nose/similar.............

I don't know. This is one of those situations where the usual suspects who Know Everything About 3.6L Engines will prove invaluable.

See this thread and last post asks this same question...

JPS,
At least it didn't look like this...

These fans do degrade, so replacing it (and the fan bearing, which should come with it for about $400) is often necessary, so maybe you are dodging this^^^ bullet. Trying to find a positive out of your troubles, ya know...

The question is how does a broken fan belt lead to a broken fan blade lead to a dented crank pulley.

Spoke with Steve W and it seems I'm just an unlucky bastard.

Engine seems to run fine from the 2 blocks I drove it and from what the shop said.

Damn damn.

I can tell you how. A dealer's mechanic sticking a screwdriver into the blades to change the belt?

Don't know.

By letting someone else work on it?

I wouldn't even know why anyone would need to do that.

I'll post pics later. Seems pretty legit. Way beyond a screwdriver.

Yup. Guess it happens. As Steve W said, "Yes, you were unlucky. And apparently the devil is behind this one."

Unclear. Certainly missing the lapping day Friday, as the part wasn't even discovered damaged until yesterday, despite dropping it off last Thurs.

Trouble is, even if they get it to me late Fri (best case), I then have to track prep it (wheels, brakes, rotors while I'm in there, DAS bar, harnesses) and then drive 250 mi to the Glen. Oh, after fighting NYC traffic from the dealer back to my garage in the first place on a Friday afternoon. Ahem.
