Most Bullet Proof 993
Looking to buy a well maintained 993 coupe. Grey or black with black interior. What is the most bullet proof 993 in the years of 1995 -1998? Why?
Thanks

My '96 C4 Cab is the most bullet proof 993. I will hit 296,000 miles this week. I picked it up with 42 miles on it almost 17 years ago to the day. I have replaced the clutch once. It has had no major engine work. I attribute this to the Iris Blue color. I would look for another Iris Blue car. These are clearly superior.

Rich, I am impressed, I would like to know more, how has the car weathered? I am talking about the interior, paint, any rust? Does it still feel tight? does it rattle? I once wanted to buy a 993 Targa with 70,000 miles and it rattled like an old New York taxi. I am curious.
I am sure many owners would like to know more!

Almost 300k miles.....outstanding!
I would suggest early build 1995 (usually the basket handle cars) for two reasons; no immobilzer, OBDI which will not throw SAI code.
I think later cars have the "depress clutch to start" feature, can be a nuisance.....95's don't have that.

My brother had a 993 c2 in Europe with 170,000 hard kilometers with many done on various tracks in France and Germany and he really never had any issues with the motor. Just minor oil leaks. The rack was starting to leak as well. Unfortunately, it perished in January on a small road outside Paris over black ice. The Michelin cups don't do well in freezing weather. He now has a low mileage 996 C2, I told him to watch the oil level on the track and make sure its always at the max.

Almost 300k with no major repairs or breakdowns - I don't think many Honda/Toyota owners can say this.
The most bullet proof 993 or any car for that matter is the one that was well taken care of.

We sold our early build 95 cab with just over 200k on it a couple years ago. Still had THE ORIGINAL CLUTCH and the engine/trans were never out on it. Didn't leak a drop. Easily the best, most reliable car we've ever owned.

Fyi 98 only came wide body so unless youre stepping up to the S model your not shopping for the 98. So 95-97 I believe Bill V had some info about the 96 obdII being unique. Maybe he can verify/elaborate.

The most bulletproof car is one that has had regular maintenance and has been DRIVEN!
Well driven, higher mileage cars actually may have the maintenance issues already taken care of where low mileage cars haven't.....and some of these things are TIME, and mileage related. ex. rubber (seals, exterior parts) degrade just from time (as well as heat/use) and these cars are 15+ years old.
early 95 = no immmobilizer. Yes some people had an issue with this anti-theft system, but the vast, vast majority of us have it without issue.
95=OBDI, no CEL that causes emissions testing issues. but if you find a rebuilt top-end car, it will have had the SAI ports cleaned out, and valve guides replaced, which takes care of the CEL issue.
Sorry, 95 won't get you a widebody, either...
