Immobilizer Issue ?

The latch is behind all the trim work down by the battery. Its quick work in and out. The tricky part is knowing when it's bent back. I was tracking down a battery leak so I had a set up to measure amperes out of the battery and could see the current go down to 20mA from 120mA when the trunk light went out.
Others have used smart phone video cameras to record what happens when the trunk closes...
A good eye could probably bump it in a bit just right.
Schtoot: it doesn't look bent, it's just been eased past threshold a bit. Just make the switch actuation a little earlier, you'll be fine.

Thanks Iain, wasn't that but I opened the door with the key while the car was armed and the alarm went off making me think that the key and computer may not be recognizing each other

Hi Guys, looking for some insight into a new issue with my 993. Car used to start every time I turned the key all the way as it is supposed to. Lately it has stopped turning over so I have had to turn my key to the "ON" position, press the remote button until I see the red door panel indicator flash twice then start the car.
Battery in remote is new. Is this a problem with the immobilizer ?

If the car is locked and alarmed, and you hit the remote, insert the key, the car should start.
If you unlock the car and get side tracked and do not immediately start the car, and it auto self primes itself, you will need to hit the fob button again to start the car. This sounds like what is occuring...
I hope this helps clarify things for you.
Cheers

[QUOTE=nine9six;10460177]After rereading your statement, this sounds like no problem at all. If you allow your car to sit for awhile after unlocking the vehicle, it is supposed to self prime the immobilizer after a certain period of time."
Sounds correct to me also; and if you unlock car with fob button but don't open a door, doors will re-lock after a minute or two.

No, guys...I don't think so. Re-read the OP's Post #3. He says that, after unlocking the car with the remote, he gets in and turns the key in the ignition. (correct procedure) It used to start but now it doesn't.

My May build car has the immob, no handle. (Happy 18th birthday to mine .... thought it was August build but found it was May instead).

My April 95 build has later style upper window mounted 3rd brake light (no basket handle), hardback sport seats (instead of the earlier and IMO better soft back sport seats), immobilizer, later style heater/blower motor, steering rack brace, and the later style plug for OBD on the inside. For better or worse lol.

I had similar problem a few years ago....ended up replacing immobilizer module, ignition switch, ignition keyway and steering wheel lock to get it all sorted out.
Here's hoping it's something quick and easy for the OP instead.

Shtootgart, most of my driving is very short trips; at 80,000 miles the key/keyway might have been as worn as a several hundred thousand mile car.
And I am much more gentle with the key action since I had the repairs done.

TRACKRAT, you're a knowledable guy...Do you have any suggestions to offer to the posters plight? After reading your post, I'm thinking maybe the ignition mechanism as mentioned by Gordo, or as you indicated the clutch micro.

If the immobilizer blocks the car from starting, do all the indicator lights still illuminate ? Mine all do but just trying to isolate what it might be. I'm leaning toward ignition. Might have t bring it in because I'm afraid it might leave me stranded. At times now, even with the two blinks of the light at the "ON" position, it still won't turn over.

Car would always unlock okay but often had trouble locking.
Would randomly take several tries with the fob to enable the ignition.
Towards the end the immob would leave one or the other parking lights on when locked; cycling the fob a few times would clear that.
