W designates the 1998 993 Wide bodied Porsche, it still begs the question I believe is being asked. What is the very last number produced, coming off the rail?

I own WS320594 "production completed date" (according to Certificate of Authenticity) was the 14th of October 1997... I saw one for sale WS 320851...

The factory was already producing the Boxster and the first of the 996 models, so I'm not sure if the "very last one was Jerry Seinfeld's 993 I have that info somewhere...

cheers,

Bert

According to one of my sources, the last Carrera S Coupe produced for North America was WP0AA299CWS321353. Whether or not that was the last 'Official' S chassis to roll off the line would be extremely hard to figure out because as stated above, at that point the main assembly lines were producing 996's and Boxsters so 993 production was being completed tucked in between somewhere and any 'special' cars from Exclusive or Special Wishes were pulled aside and finished in their own time.

Seinfeld's car was officially 'rolled out' on October 3, 1998 but the available record shows 993 production being finished in July, and it's my understanding that virtually ALL of the last 993's were Cabriolets.

North American 993 production ceased in December 1997. The last car brought to North America was a US spec, Black Metallic C2S optioned with, among other things, Tiptronic transmission, yellow calipers, Technology wheels (hollow spokes), and a plaque stating the car was indeed the last air-cooled 911 to be built for the US. The plaque also stated that the car was built for one Jerry Seinfeld.

The true "LAST" 993 was completed, I believe, in early April 1998. As discussed many times before, it was a Paint to Sample Mexico Blue C4S built to ROW spec (not sure exactly what country code). Distinguishing features were silver calipers (instead of the standard for C4S red), no sunroof, and a few carbon fibre options for the inside. It too was sold to one Jerry Seinfeld.

Once 996 production was up and running in summer 1997, the only 993s being produced were cabriolets, Targas (based on cabriolet shell), and wide bodies, including Turbos for ROW markets. Narrow body coupes stopped being produced for North America after December 1996.

Anyway, ... Jerry. Has 'The Last' 993 built R.O.W. and then pays to federalize it so he can import it to California .. you gotta love it

Just noticing that the last 4 digits of the VIN on Seinfeld's "last US air cooled Porsche" (the metallic black C2S Tip) are LOWER than two members cars, not to mention the VIN that JP gave above.

Seinfeld C2S: 1327 (and a plaque that says LAST air cooled Porsche for the US)
Harlan's C2S: 1333
Another C2S: 1339
VIN JP mentioned: 1353

Yes, I'm fairly certain that Porsche manipulated the finish sequence so that Jerry got the last 'official' rolled out vehicle. Makes for great press on both sides ...
Whatever happened to that black metallic tippy S? Does he still have it? I seem to remember it being sold out of his collection a few years back with some auction house making a BIG deal out of the plaque and asking mega bucks for the privilege ...

Oh .. and that vin I mentioned .. 1353, it's just the last reported 'completed' coupe vin for North America according to Patrick Paternie's 'Porsche 911 Red Book 1965-2005' it doesn't have any other details ... but his book also says that 993 production continued until July 1998 and if Harlan's car is 20 from the end and his door sticker says 12/97 (which were applied at the accepting dealer btw ..) .. and the factory was producing 60 cars a day at it's peak .. then it seems logical that what you said is true, that the factory completed 993 line-production in December '97 and they held back cars out of sequence that were hand completed and 'rolled out' in '98. Porsche notes 'manufacture completion' dates on each vehicles internal factory records ... so if you're interested, you can make an appointment at the new 'archive' facility above the new Mueseum in Stuttgart and have a look if you have an upcoming trip and an extra hour to spend ...
