Default Turn signal stays on solid when car is off!

I found my car in the garage with the right turn signals, front and back, on solid, not blinking. I checked to make sure the lever was in the neutral position. It was. The hazards have stopped working too...

Any ides. My mechanic thinks it might be the turn signal lever needs to be cleaned or the relay that flashes the hazard and turn signal is shot.

Any ideas?? As of now, the car is in the garage with the battery disconnected.

did someone replace a bulb recently?
Or remove the turn/brake lense assembly?

IIRC, the wrong bulb/socket can do this...

In that case this could be fun...

I would check the bulb sockets, make sure there isn't corrosion
Change turn signal relay
Then go to the stalk/switch assembly...

The European Porsche's have a feature to allow the right or left front/back turn signal lights to illuminate for street parking to warn other drivers of its location. This is provided while there's no key in the ignition. Just turn your signal switch and the light will turn off, there are two steps in the switch for each side.

As I mentioned the turn signal lever is in the neutral position.

Turn the car on. Pull the turn signal lever down so the left side turn signals blink. Report results.

My guess is that turn signal assembly is shorted. But it's a preliminary guess.

My '95 started to do that occasionally a few years ago.
Very random, infrequent.

I was having trouble with the immobilizer at the same time.
Finally sorted out immobilizer problems and turn signal has been fine since.

This might be a fault in the alarm/dorr lock control module. It's placed under the passenger seat, maybe it's been wet or something? You could try to disconnect the two connectors on it to determine if there's any internal faults.
Cheers,
Tore

Light staying on is normal.
I added an aftermarket circuit board that monitors the parking light/headlight/rt turn signal light when the ignition is off and provide a chime warning so the lights are not inadvertently left on killing the battery overnight.

Andy, light staying on is not normal unless turn signal is engaged. BTW, a chime is already there if you left turn signal in up or down position and light does stay on.

Doberdog, did you ever sort out your turn signal issue? My 1996 993 C2 has developed what sounds like the identical problem (except mine is the left turn signal and my emergency flashers still work, at least on the right side).

Symptoms:
- Left turn signal lights stay on constantly (front and rear) despite turn signal stalk in neutral position.
- Remains on when engine and ignition off (Normally, turn signals won't work if ignition switch off.
- Right turn signal still works normally: flashes and clicks when turn signal on.
- Turn signal arrow light in the tachometer also stays on constantly - I can't even hear the "click click" noise the left turn signal is supposed to make when it's on.
- The car has had no recent work on the lights, but recently had to have a reprogrammed ECU installed (old one wouldn't reset the readiness codes, so the car wouldn't pass inspection).

I called my shop this morning and the main tech said he suspects the turn signal switch is sticking, but I wiggled the stalk and switched it on and off a number of times, but nothing changed. I've removed the fuses for front and back turn signals and the gauge with the turn signal light, just to keep from killing the battery.

If someone has corrected this issue already, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks in advance.

Except no smoke, ozone odor, welded fuel pump points or flames.
