Default Rear spoiler wall

Just received my rear spoiler wall ordered from Pelican. I noticed the hinge areas are so thin, it looks like they will tear at any moment. I'm thinking about masking an 1/8" line and spraying the hinge points with something like plastic dip to help build them up and strengthen the areas. Do you think that that will help or just a waste of time?

I'm about to order my spoiler wall, following this thread also.

Somebody taped theirs with black gorilla tape because they were tired of it breaking. Is there any room to tape this on the inside of the wall - out of sight? Could that ad some reinforcement?

I replaced mine about 4 years ago. Did nothing to the new one before installing. No issues at 3 years, at which point I disabled the spoiler.

Guilty!

Gorilla tape is awesome stuff. I have it on the outside, and unless you are 5 feet away, you can't see it.

Mine also separated at the major hinge point. After almost 15 years I would chalk it up to normal wear and tear for a plastic part with a living hinge. Replacing with a new one will probably give you plenty of years without trouble.

I guess it might not hurt to put some black (duct or Gorilla) tape on it. I would probably recommend putting it on the side that is away from the engine - facing up.

It takes many years for the wall to tear. My 95's wall was still the original one. I have another spare decklid also 95 and original with no tear. If you replace with new, don't waste your time with tape. It will last long after you get rid of your car.

Replaced mine a few weeks back. As I was missing the rubber seal beneath the spolier wall, meaning no reference point to start with. A 30min job took me approx 2hrs b/c of that. Now, it will take 30min with a coffee break and a snack. Easy job if all is there. Best of luck!

Just replaced the spoiler wall. Did not reinforce the bends. I thought I will see how long this one lasts first. It took about 3 minutes. Way too easy. First of all, I opened the spoiler up, but not all the way. I then removed the bottom rubber attachment point which made it very easy to remove the top. I then slid the rubber bottom attachment through the new wall and placed the new wall back into position. I pushed in the top and went to the bottom and reattached. My only concern is the top did not snap because the clip on the new wall was a little to large. I'm going to keep an eye on it to make sure it stays. I'm thinking with the wind pressure, it shouldn't pull off.

ble2011 you are fast!!! I just did mine also, it took me at least 3 minutes to take it out of the bag and look at it lol. I did the same technique (I saw it on p-car). Don't you love the 'added' content at the bottom of the diy's?

Guess it was just a little too easy for me. The top pulled out on my first drive. I'll try some silicone and gorilla tape to hold as mentioned above.

I read the DIY, but I left the spoiler in place and completely removed the rubber gasket on the bottom. It was so much easier to do that way.

I did it the same way - the "Thomas Schulte" (added content) method. Took about 30 minutes taking my time. I did clean and condition the rubber gasket.

I don't think you should need any tape or silicone to hold it in place. I can see putting tape along the weak joints, but after reading above I'm hoping to get many years out of it stock.

Did the mid section of yours snap onto the metal rod it is like a 1/4 metal rod? There is a L shaped piece on either side of the new wall that latches over the metal rod and snaps on. I did not see that mentioned in the DIY but noticed it taking my old one off?

How much are these spoiler walls new? Just checking to determine if the price point on my used one is fair. I think the gorilla tape would provide my used one years of addtional use.
