The Market for S Cars...
Check out the latest for sale ads in the classifieds for 993, 996, and 997.1 S cars. Sure, sample size is small but pretty telling nevertheless...

My observation too, Ilko.
Anyhoo, there were hardly any WBs around several months ago, and in the last week alone, three 993 WB came on market. Spring time is here and time to ****** one up if you're looking.

The 997 S is nothing more than a standard C2 with more power so it's no surprise its values are plummeting. The 996 C4S is the real question mark here. I've always loved the red reflector across the back, turbo bumpers, and they seem fairly rare. There were some in my price range when I was shopping last fall but I still preferred the 993.

996 and 997 cars are just another luxury item exposed to the laws of depreciation. The 993 is rarer, unique and if recent history is any indication, they will hold up well in the long run.
I predict, as the newer Porsche products continue to arrive, each easier to drive and more refined than the previous model, there will be a small amount of owners looking back to something a little rawer but still slightly modern. This is where the 993 will play.

Regarding the 996 C4S I also think they are the best looking 996 cars out there. But considering that you can get a decent 996TT or GT3 for another $10K or so the price starts to make sense.
I personally will probably be looking to buy a 997.2 C4S in a couple of years. The 2009 ones have already lost 50% of their MSRP and still have another year of factory warranty left.
I'm also curious about the market for 964 cars... You barely see any for sale and even high mileage ones seem to be trading in the low 20s...

If the 997 S is just a C2 with more power (and not just that - better brakes, PASM, etc...) then a 993 S is just a C2 with wider hips

Im keeping an eye out for a 997C4S as well once prices become too good to be true. Great cars and if the market causes them to be fire saled im nabbin' one as i love the useabilty and daily driver friendliness of them. Practical and cool.
964 market is also interesting. Im actually looking for them in my local area trying to ****** up whatever hidden gems i can find as they really are fun 911s that look great and are less $$ then the 993 and better cars then 1974-1989 models (IMHO) in terms of driveability. The prices look to be holding and perhaps getting stronger (for good examples) if anything.

I didn't know there were any options on a 997 S that couldn't be ordered on a standard 997 aside from the 3.8. My main point (poorly stated) was that a 997S doesn't get you the wide body the way a 993 or 996 does which for me is the main draw. I agree the 997 C4S is a more desirable car because of the wider hips.

I've sold my 98 993 C4S for a lot more than it will cost me to get into a 997!

Much of the value of the 993S is due to the last of the air-cooled 911 production run with the utilization of the remaining turbo body component sets along with lower production numbers helps in maintaining their values.

From a lowly NB owner I admire the humility of the S owner!
But seriously, you know the real reason the new ones depreciate so quickly don't you?
So us 993 owners can have TWO of course!

At one point, (IIRC) the 996C4S cab with a tip was the hottest selling 911.

for almost the price of one 993S... our family got a 996 c4s and a 993 NB . My dad has the 996 for daily driving and let me take the 993 on weekends ( altho they really are interchangeable as they are both so reliable). We got the 996 c4s because we liked the back red light panel just like it is on the 993 ( and its modern creature comfort stuff...) . By no means is a 996 c4s rare (at least in the porsche world...) , if i remember correctly reading somewhere on here, there were 18k c4s for N. America , and what 13k narrow body 993 in N. America ? (don't quote me, I'm probably way off) ...Considering how I'm from a younger generation of future Porsches buyer group, I find it rather interesting that I'm liking the more raw 993 than 996, 997, or whatever Porsche is making these days (guess I am the exception within our age group though...) Hope 993 price won't go unaffordably high until I get out of college and get my first bucket of gold Not to discredit the newer Porsche though, as they are IMO still by far much better than anything other brand makes, but still, sitting in the newer 911 just doesn't feel right.
