I talked to Steve, and yes that is true but he also gave me the Porsche part number to go by so I completely trust him. He might be able to shred the light to this. All I know is they wanted a Vin number so I had to go by Porsche part instead, because of the 1400-5000 quote.
lol I know its GIAC. It's all Voodoo to me

If one searches, it can be found for $750 - $1000.
"'98 ECU (.649) is different and will result in a permanent Check Engine light (evaporative control issues)."
That's correct! But if one really could do a total re-flash and not a minor code change,
i.e. remove the immobilizer test, that wouldn't be an issue.
"It must be programmed by the dealer or by Steve Weiner."
That's GIAC (as most use) and it's about $1000 to the end customer,
i.e. Let's give credit where credit is do.

Yes indeed. Let's give credit where credit is due.
When I needed(!) some help regarding my ECU Steve was there with answers via several emails and on the phone several times. He was VERY patient with my ignorance. We worked out just what I needed and some things that I wanted. I sent my new ECU to him overnight and had it back in three days (as I recall). I was ecstatic with the results within 15 minutes of starting my car with the new ECU installed. Yes I said ecstatic! I would have jumped up and down but I was driving. That was two years ago this month and I still feel the same every time I drive my car. So giving credit where credit is due … Thanks again Steve Weiner!

Sorry to steal the trd,but it's kinda of on topic.
question to the DME expert here:
does anyone know if the X51 or M64/21S engines have the same std DME ECU than 3.6 VR engines?
I'll check my ecu pn(the one I could read on the metal shield, don't know if Porsche or Bosch)
the next days.
What are the std and rs dme ecu part number?
thanks

There was one from a US '97 in the want adds w/i the past few days
Any of the 55pin OBD1 DMEs can be used in any of the '95 US or '94-97 RoW n/a cars w/ some minor wiring changes and w/ a chip change. There is an external 2 pin plug that is used to access the various maps.
