Default Symptoms of failing fuel pump relay

Folks,
What are the symptoms of a failing DME fuel pump relay?

Typically, the engine cranks but doesn't start since the power to the DME & fuel pump is disrupted when the relay has a problem.

Super, Steve is correct above, and I would add, that you don't get a whole lot of pre warning prior to failure (in my experience). It's just, BAM, stops working, stuck on the side of the road, waiting for the flatbed (if you don't have a spare or know where it goes).

You can also be proactive and check your current DME relay part number. If it's a 944 part number, you days are numbered.

The newest OEM Porsche part number is 993-615-227-01. Sunset is $62.

Thanks Steve and Lex. My suspicions are correct.

Having opened my spare 993 part numbered relay, the solder joints (the cause of their failure) in those weren't all that much better. Pics of the newer 993 relay circuit board are on page 3 of the link.

The surest way to prevent failure is to re-solder the solder joints on your original 944 relay and keep a spare for that "feel good" feeling, not that you'll ever need it after the rework.

A little over a year back my Check Engine Light came on the code was P1541, it turned out the DME Relay. I pulled it and re-soldered the problematic joint, the procedure is described in this thread:

https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...nd-repair.html

Put the repaired DME in and reset the CEL and no more issues. I purchased a new DME and installed it a few weeks after, I kept the "repaired" one in my tool kit just in case.

LOL.....IXLR8 beat me to the punch............

Thanks, found it. I have a spare, and I'm going to check those joints as well.
