Default Stereo head unit

Hi, I have four nice speakers, I do not want amps or subs. I want a head unit that will play nicely with my Iphone 4s and pandora.
What is the new hot $hyt head unit that has all the new gizmos?
And I want it to have a blank no button face please. I do not like a busy face with lots of buttons and like remote controls too!

THANKS!!

I don't know of any w/out buttons, that may be a tall order, but these are popular:

Make sure to get a head unit that will provide enough power for your speakers. See what the RMS watts per channel your speakers are designed for and then make sure you get at least 75 to 150% of that figure for your head unit.

Be careful with power ratings. Like Horsepower, a simple quoted number can be [very] misleading.

The better manufacturers will quote RMS power at a particular THD (total harmonic distortion)

It is relatively easy to generate high wattage, to do it cleanly is another story.

The high end stuff is typically, under rated even. similar to the way Porsche advertises HP ratings.

I just put in my NLA Becker Mexico Pro 7938. Looks factory with amber illumination. Plug and play except for routing one wire.

Has iPod integration and if you step up to the Grand Prix 7999 you can have bluetooth for your phone.

I share your dislike of buttons. Here is my solution, a "Porsche" head unit with all the necessary stuff (bluetooth, USB, iPod/iPhone, etc.), as well as a remote. Actually, the touch-screen is easier to see than the display on an Alpine unit I have in another car. I am really pleased with the look. It is better in person than the crappy iPhone pix in a dark garage:

What model is the Porsche one?

FWIW, I had an iDa or whatever it was Alpine...worked fine but the interface was baffling.

Default Head unit

Actually the "Porsche" head unit ids a JVC touch screen with no buttons. I ordered the Porsche decal in the size of the CDR units. Voila - a Porsche radio. Interestingly, the screen will go dark after a uswer-set time, and it has a proximity sensor so that when your hand gets close it lights. The screen background can be any user-supplied JPG. I was actually thinking of gloss black to match the rest of the dash, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Phone module works as well as the Alpine. Maybe a little less-well for iPod selection and pre-sets. It does accept Sirius/XM input.

Not sure why it didn't become popular, but I understand it is no longer in production; probably because most everything in double din these days.

I had the JVC KV-AVX77 in my Targa - awesome unit, works great. Its still available and is cheap now since they are stopping production. I was going to upgrade the one in the Turbo with this unit, but decided to go retro and put in a CDR-220.

The touch screen is great, goes black when not using it - but it is quite glossy so there is a bit o glare at times.

Phone and bluetooth works great, and the sound is good as well. you can watch movies, but the aspect ratio gets a bit stretched. I used it primarily to play music off my iPhone, and have phone conversations.

Cheers,

Mike

This is what I have. A bit pricey, but true audiophile unit. I also think that the glass plate face and colour fits perfectly with the 993 spartan look.

A simple search locates pictures of the ^^^above Pioneer P99RS unit installed in a 993 with black leather dashboard. Great high fidelity head unit in every respect. For you Mp3 compression / Ipod users, the P99 does the iPods, iPhones digital to analog conversion with the head unit's uber DSP chip set; its licensed by Apple Computer to perform this D/A function as only a handfull of manufactures are. The 24/96hkz is a Brown-Burr DSP. Today,, fancy for a car unit. The audio is great if even from a compression scheme.

Here's link to a $300 all-in-one radio, again its by Pioneer (full disclaimer applies) its their new DEH-80-PRS which has on-board power, 24/96khz DSP set and a comprehensive EQ section IIRC. Output: 14W RMS @ 4 ohms X 4ch

I am leaning toward the DEH-80-PRS. It has easy controls and a remote and seems to do everything at a reasonable price.

That's what I have. I'm pleased with it. However, I'm going to try removing the chrome "control handle" and paint it a with black chrome so it doesn't standout as much.

I found a Sony that has a compartment for Ipod/Iphone:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158DSX3...X.html?tp=5684

I was on a brand new boat last summer and it had a head unit that you insert your iphone into a dock that sucked it in and charged it and had speaker phone...???
