Default Rear Windowscreen PM - sealant

About to tackle the rear window screen modification. I have removed the rubber outer seal and I am happy there is no rust. Although I know after washing the car water sits in the gap between the plastic mould and the outer metal body.

So, after reading about the solution about filling the rear window screen gap with sealant - the question is what sealant have people used?

Thanks Mike, I did see that. Perhaps I should have been more specific. Other products besides Wurth. It is not that readily available in NZ.

A quality pu sealant such as Sikaflex-291i or 3M Polyurethane Sealer will do the job. It sticks like something nasty and is non corrossive unlike silicon.
Try a marine or builders supplier.

If you do not find an alternative in NZ, try ebay here :

or if you prefer, I will send you a cartridge by mail, keep me posted.

Permatex Flowable Silicone Windshield & Glass Sealer.

I used this product for a different application; to hold a digital multimeter in the potting box that was used as its case. This stuff flows into the tiniest of cracks.

In my opinion, you want a product that is almost a liquid so that no air bubbles are trapped and one that fills gaps and attaches itself to the body, and not a product that is as thick as toothpaste when applying.

Would you rather use a urethane product than silicon?

My research does seem to point to using a polyurethane sealant.

I have no firsthand knowledge or experience with this issue but a couple of years back when I was searching through the numerous threads on a different windshield issue (the infamous squeak)

Anyway, some folks were trying a silicone based lubricant. Someone chimed in about how they used that and then later on when they needed to get the area treated with it resprayed, it created all sorts of difficulties. The paint wouldn't bond, the silicone wouldn't fully come of from the surface etc.

I guess what I'm saying is here's a heads up and maybe research further.

Thanks for finding that! I remembered the thread, but did not search for it ...too rushed these days.
