Default JB's 993 & Roadtrip Thread!

Just picked up a gorgeous new to me 993 Yesterday. This is my first Porsche and so far I am loving it!!!

She is a beautiful Midnight Blue C2 Coupe, Grey interior, 48k miles In just awesome shape thanks to the PO who took amazing care of her and did some very tasteful mods including PSS9's.

I picked the car up in Baltimore yesterday evening, doing a roadtrip back home to Plano Texas so it should be fun. No huge hurry or deadline to meet (for once!). In Annapolis as I type. Think I will head over the Bay Bridge and then down to the Bay Bridge tunnel into Virginia today. Always fascinated by that tunnel and not sure when I'll get this close again. It'll help keep me a little further away from the bad weather system showing up today too.

Would welcome any "good drives" suggestions.

Here is a pic, taken last night. It's out of focus and dark, but it's all I have! I'll try and add some more tonight.

Cheers,
JB

Congrats! You're a hop and a skip from me. Enjoy your drive home. I hope you don't run into that nasty storm that's hitting the entire east coast today.

Congrats. Beautiful 993. Don't have any suggestions as to the drive except to enjoy it as you will look back on it fondly.

Congrats and have fun driving back to the Metromess! Hope to see it driving around someday.

Depending on how far off route you want to go, the Tale of the Dragon in NC comes to mind. Once you get to Little Rock, there are miles and miles of different fun routes I could give you to get back to Dallas. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks guys!

If you were to measure today in miles covered towards home, it was a failure.

But if we changed the parameters to fun and bonding..... "cha-ching"

Day 2 (and first full day with my car) and I am getting attached. Proof? I stood between a backing truck and my parked car with a you got to be kidding look on my face when I thought he got a little closer than he needed to. If that was my truck, my dd is a Z71, and I like that truck a lot, but I wouldn't stand inbetween. Nope.

Annapolis. Wow. What a City full of Character and History. Definately on the go back list. I would have made it much farther today, but I spent a few hours there and could have spent a lot more. I checked out the Capitol and historic areas. Wow. I love the trickle down effect of doing something like this. Call me ignorant. I had NO idea Annapolis was (for a short time) the Capital of the United States. The history is just amazing. Definately rec stopping in if you are on a road trip....

Then I headed East. Father than I needed too, but I wanted to get into Delaware as I'd never been. Very nice farm land with awesome old farmhouses and barns - perfect backdrops for a 993 shot but alas I only have my pnone camera with me. next time....

THen south. Not too fun on 13 down to the bay bridge tunnel. Sooooo many lights and they seem to trip for just one car coming out of a neighborhood INSTANTLY....

The bay bridge tunnel was awesome. That is a true engineering feat, right there. My rec would be if you are ever on a road trip near Virginia beach, do the tunnel and then turn around and just come back. It doesnt take that long. There is a nice scenic turnout right before you enter (coming south) I missed it, but it was close to sunset, and that is a nice view.

hkspwrsche > I did check ahead of time thanks!
P-daddy> what storm? I was lucky While I didn't make much 'West' progress today I'm pleased to announce I didn't get one drop.
bbs993tt> I'm interested. As luck would have it, I barely made it into NC before decideing to overnight. The blown over tree trunk the ended flush with the shoulder in the dark at 75 on I95 was the deciding factor. I'll google the Dragon tail tonight, but any others between there and D I'd love to hear.

Thats about it for today lads.....

oops.... almost forgot, here are some more pics. And no comments about the dirt! She's getting used, damnit! And the moving picture shots were done VERY carefully!!!!

JB 911,

Good on you for taking it all in on your way home and thanks for sharing. You're doing this trip the right way - only problem is driving your 993 around here will be a huge letdown! I'll email you other suggestions before you get close to AR.

Jamie,... congrads! She's a beauty!
I'm not sure which direction you're going or where your present location puts you, but here's a great drive. South of Richmond Va. on I64 is Colonial Williamsburg which is very cool, and the drive is the Colonial National Historic Parkway. Goes from Williamsburg to Yorktown (where Washington won the decisive battle of the revolution- neat museum), then goes to Jamestown (the first English settlement - (Capt. John Smith & Pocahontas). The Parkway is a dedicated roadway that has the character of a 1600's carriage way... beautiful!

However you get back to Big D, drive safely... and not to slow at times.
Cheers
Doug
