Default Hacking clear turn signal lights

I've read several posts on here about the installation of clear turn signal lights and the only ones available are made for the euro bumpers and need to be hacked in order to fit our 993s. My question is, if the lights need to be hacked and made to fit US bumpers why use OEM lights at a great expense when you can buy a pair of Asian made lights for $50 shipped? What are the pros and cons of using these lights in lieu of OEM?

Let us know the fit and finish. Makes sense to me if youre going to hack them up. I say just go oem and get the bumperettes deleted.

If you delete the bumperettes is there a bumper gap you have to deal with?

I just found a write up on deleting the bumperettes on Rennlist and pelican, here are the links:

https://rennlist.com/forums/993-1995...tte-holes.html

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...-kind-how.html

I believe it is more cost effective to hack the lights rather deleting the bumperettes.

Any thoughts or comments?

If you delete the bumperettes you will need to respray part or all of your bumper.

I have a set of turn signals that I bought off a rennlister that have been cut, I ended up deleting my bumperettes so I no longer need them.

If you are interested in them send me a PM.

An even better question is why dont the people producing the clear knock-off lenses, do so to the existing US OEM turnsignal lens and bypass having to modify anything?

Imagine a direct bolt up replacement clear lens. What a concept!

I've cut a pair of ebay clear lenses. The key is to cut off less than needed at an angle so you can doing trim cutting after doing some test fitting. They seems of good quality and fit.

It doesn't make sense to me either, they would be selling like hot cakes if they were the correct size. Why not retool the molds to make them fit the US bumpers. There are more US bumpers than Euro bumpers in the USA so what's the issue?
I don't like the idea of having to hack lights.

Its cheap enough that you can do it. (vendor in hong kong is ROW)
There's many thread on this topic and years ago, I too bought these but didn't like them for various reasons and ended up buying oem euro version and did the bumperette delete at the end.
Btw, you have a nice car!

The Chinese lenses are OK, though you will see some discolored areas around the edges that don't look great due to the glue they use to mate the clear lens to the housing (You can see it in the pictures above) They're fine from 5ft, though personally, I do prefer the quality look of OEM.

I believe I have a set of already shortened knock-offs - PM me if interested....

What kind of bulbs are you guys running with your clear lenses? I have ambers in mine, but they show through and give off too much orange.

I still have amber corners, but I've found the SilverStar signal bulbs work nice for clear signals.

I use the amber ones with the 'chrome' coating - they only flash amber....

Default clear corners

I bought a pair from Better Bodies (not cheap if I recall). These are "modded" oem pieces, plug and play and I use the silver coated amber bulbs.

FD Motorsports sells the short clear lenses. Since everything they do is first class, I'm sure they look great however I have not seen them first hand.
