Talking Bill to Provide for Single License Plate Introduced in Virginia Legislature

URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT: THE CAR HOBBY NEEDS YOUR HELP

Bill to Provide for Single License Plate Introduced in Virginia Legislature

Virginia legislation (S.B. 771) prefiled in the legislature for 2013 proposes to reduce the number of license plates furnished by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to registered motor vehicles. Under the bill, favored by state hobbyists, the DMV would issue only one license plate (rather than two) and require the single plate to be attached to the rear of the vehicle.

We Urge You to Contact Members of the Senate Transportation Committee (Contact Info Below) Immediately to Request Support for S.B. 771

S.B. 771 would apply to every registered motor vehicle, semitrailer or trailer, including hobby cars such as antique, reconstructed and replica vehicles.

S.B. 771 would protect the aesthetic contours of collector cars and relieve vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes on fabricated bumpers, etc.
DON’T DELAY! Please contact members of the Virginia Senate Transportation Committee immediately by phone or e-mail to request their support for S.B. 771.

Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org. Also, please forward this Alert to your fellow car enthusiasts. Urge them to join the SAN and help defend the hobby! Thank you for your assistance.

Now that speed cameras have become such revenue raisers I doubt this bill has much of a chance.

Harold,

Thanks for the heads up on this, I had no idea it was even being considered.

Already sent my email!

Here in Alberta, Canada we've had a single license plate for at least 10 years, I cannot remember precisely... it's been a very long time!

It does not seem to reduce the income from "Speed-on Green" cameras, they just fight here in the community what to do with the millions of dollars raised each year!

Maybe your state should look beyond your borders, such as here in Alberta Canada and see it is quite possible to have cars with a single rear plate... it saves the state/province a lot of money...Maybe that will help them decide!!!

Good Luck,

Bert

Lucky you - we don't but I wish we did so I do not have to cram that plate on the grill on the turbo - :-)

Cheers

This would be fantastic. I've owned my p-car for a year, and don't have the heart to install the front plate on its virgin bumper. So I've been in violation all this time, keep my fingers crossed whenever I drive her!

Amazingly, a single-plate province vehicle can drive in a two-plate province legally. Go figure!
