Will be interesting to hear the answer but I do not think that this will work with the stock hifi speakers. The Nokia amp has a active crossover and the output drives each individual speaker with a wire pair. Just look at my posting where I listed all wires by color and function. Your ordinary radio will not provide this and to tune the cross over would be almost impossible ...

Using the existing cable from the amp to the doors and rear deck is an option but it requires new speakers to get a reasonable result. As Tore said, you can rout the cables through the tunnel under the carpet (see my post). You can cur the wire harness plug if you do not intend to put back the Nokia amp (which will be very likely) and solder the connecting wires directly to the harness. The other option would be to use the plug from an amp and built your own connector. If I would do it again, the harness plug would go ...

Actually it works quite well with the oe speakers [good enough for my listening pleasure].

I dumped the nokia amp and CR-1 radio; and as Tore, etc. mentioned, connected the head unit output to the oe speaker harness, cutting out the amp completely [mine wasn't working anyway.]

I connected the mid frequency door speaker in parallel with the low frequency speaker. i could not find a handy speaker wire for the door tweeters, so they don't work.

All four rear speakers work fine.

The parallel use of the speakers has one advantage: You have more power because the Nokia speakers are 8 Ohm and two parallel with give you 4 Ohm which matches the typical impedance of the Radio amp. From a sound perspective, you need to make the call. I would not even consider going a route like this because it is defeating the purpose of a well balanced 3 way system.

I agree, my method is rough and ready, not to mention cheap ($63.49 for the new Sony 4 x 45 watt head unit, with cd, USB, aux, iPhone, pandora and tuner).

However the head unit is highly configurable and produces sound at least as good as the oe cr-1 radio and Nokia amp which would cost many hundreds of dollars if I wanted to renew them.

Many would agree that the oe hi-fi option could hardly be called wondrous to the ear.

Incidentally, the rear speakers are 4 ohm and the mids are 6 ohm. At the moment I can't locate my old low frequency door speaker to check that resistance. Oh, just found it -- it's 4 ohm.

I just disconnected the amp and soldered the new wires directly to the old ones. I've also used scotchlok 558 splices for this, it's much quicker and very reliable.
Cheers,
Tore

The OEM Nokia/ITT part # PT 130/25/90 FG 130mm (5.25) mid woofer used in the 993 HiFi option enclosure is 4 ohm rated.

The OEM Nokia/ITT part # LPB 80/19/100 FS 80mm (3.14") full range speaker used in the 993 HiFi option enclosure is 6 ohm rated. Edit: this full range speaker is often mistaken to be a mid-range speaker, its false, the speaker see's a full range signal from the Nokia amp.

FACT.

Thanks for clarification. It is quite a while that I did my install. Maybe the cab rears are 8 ohms ...

I just went through this. I added a Kenwood receiver and used the Nokia factory amp b splicing together an adapter (I later found out that Crutchfield makes one). About a month later the amp died. Was it a result of using the factory amp and aftermarket receiver? Not sure. I ended up buying a new amplifier as well. So far the factory speakers are holding up, going on 6 months.

Gentlemen,

I have recently replaced my factory CR-1 HiFi radio with a Kenwood unit. My factory amp was no longer working so I figured now is the time to upgrade system to the 21st century. As I read through the threads, I am still looking for the solution to retain the factory speakers and wiring. Is there an aftermarket amp that can support the current factory speaker/wiring setup? If not, how can I wire my system into the existing wiring (under passenger seat) to create an acceptable sound experience.
Obviously, I am no audiophile, so please forgive my ignorance in how to use the existing components and wiring in the HiFi system.

P.S. This is a MY '95 w/o DSP

My factory amp wasn't working, so I had an Alpine 133bt head unit installed, with a Powerbass ASA300 amp. It works with the factory speakers. I'm not an audiophile, so it sounds good to me. Almost as good as the song of the flat 6.

If you continue to use the OE speakers and wiring harness, most modern head units have enough power so the amp is no longer needed - you save money if your Nokia amp is not working.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Again, I am not an audiophile but does the amp you are using have crossovers for the 3 speaker set up in the doors?

x50type- I believe the unit I have has enough power to not have to use an amp, just don't know how to wire it correctly to feed the 3 door speakers to distribute the sound correctly? How would you wire (to harness under passenger seat) to get best sound out of the HiFi speaker wiring/setup?

Thanks,

[QUOTE=e9stibi;10116269]here is plug c. you are interested in the yellow portion that has all the signals to control and drive the Nokia amp

Does anyone know where I can pick up this connector (or at least the yellow piece). I am trying to revert to a CDR220 and the prior install with a Kenwood headunit butchered some of the wired connections.

Thanks, Frank

See mine above of 01-04-2013, 06:39 PM wrt the tweeters.

The wiring diagram will show how to take the audio outputs from your new radio and connect them correctly to the OE speaker wiring harness. You can cut off the multi pin plug under the passenger seat and connect directly or connect into it using individual spade ends as i did, The connections are numbered and the wires colour coded. It just takes some time and concentration.

Thanx x590ype.

While your picture shows your door panel removed and speaker out, I am assuming I can wire in parallel with wires that terminated in the factory amp under the passenger seat?

Greatly appreciate your suggestion.
