Sorry for the late reply..been off the net for a while. That was just the door card filed back to accept the screw tabs. They don't quite line up with the 6.5 speaker.

No choice since the new speaker is larger 6.5 vice OEM 5.25. I saw some pretty funky speaker grills out there too. I'm glad the Focal look as good as they sound. D

My experience with both my 930 and several other cars is that most any aftermarket two way speaker replacement will sound better than stock. The $39 solution from Best Buy sound great by comparison.

I hear you. Which begs us to ask why oh why did they...

And separates will sound better than Coaxial speakers.
They will also cost more and the larger the crossover, the better the frequency control, and the issue of mounting a large crossover.

Any decent contemporary coned speaker replacement will sound worlds better than the crappy paper Nokia speaker cones held by disintergrated, turned to powder foam!

And to JB911 I hope I answered your email, but for everyone the bass blockers in the rear were from Crutchfield and the part number was PACBB-300A2 ($9.99). They have a cut off at 300hz.
Best,

Thanks for the info daiys.
I'm installing the same Focals now. Since the existing harness doesn't fit the wider spaced posts on the Focal speaker, did you just cut the harness and solder the wires in place or did you have a better way of making the connections?

Personally, I went to Radio shack and bought some females about the same sizes as the posts. Then cut the harness, crimped those on, and slid them in place. I didn't bother to solder.

I just spliced on the correct size wires. I did not solder. d

I didn't measure them when I had the grill off - are they actually 4" cones, cause the grill-plate is 4" square with a 3.5" central round grill.

This won't help you with cab question, but for others reading this post, I ended up doing the coaxial Focal Point 6.5's like daiys did in the front and the Polk db461s in the rear with the bass blockers and it turned out sounding great.
I also found these speaker harnesses at Crutchfield that let you just plug in your new speakers directly to your existing plug that was on the old speakers. No cut/splice/crimp or solder nesc.

Item # 12071017 $9.99 for 2. Free if you buy your speakers from Crutchfield. I didn't price their speakers.

Did you get a response to this question? I also have a 993 Cab, and those rear speakers look pretty pitiful... I imagine ANYTHING would be an improvement over the OEM cones, but it would be nice if the replacement were plug and play.

Improve the front speakers in the doors and the amp to push those speakers.
