My girlfriend and I talked about driving up and making this trip. We'd be coming from South GA (Thomasville). Where's a good place to stay the night before?

Anywhere in Buckhead or the Suburbs, or maybe Chateau Elan if you want to spend a bit more. The starting point is just into the mountains, so it's not so far north of town.

There are any number of chain motel/hotels along GA 400 between I-285 and Dawsonville. There is a cluster of them at the Windward Parkway exit in Alpharetta, about 25 miles south of the start point. There are also smaller/cheaper motels at Cumming and Dawsonville, but I have no idea about quality.

If you want to visit the area the day before, you could come into Dahlonega and stay either at the Holiday Inn Express (Actually a very clean, well kept place) or find a B&B. PM me if you're interested in a B&B and I'll point you toward a couple of nice ones...I wouldn't wait too long to check on B&B's. They stay busy.

Hope this helps....

Terry

Exit 11. Windward has a ton of hotels and restaurants etc. only 10 minutes from first meeting point exit 13.
Also exit 13 has a lot of shopping etc at the avenues. However there are not too many hotels there yet.

Cannon, not meant to be critical, This will be a nice ride. I'm not sure I would have laid the route out here for all to see. Meaning the boys in blue who have quotas to meet....seems like shooting fish in a barrel for them. Then again, maybe I'm just paranoid. Perhaps next year, I'll join you. I am local to the area (zip 30513), but now also local to the Asheville area. Any WNC guys seeing this? BRP is in my back yard at this house.
