Default locked the keys in the car?

My car is living in Florida for the winter. My wife went down this weekend and I asked her to exercise it for me while she was there. She took it out this afternoon and had a good drive. When she got back she got out and closed the door. She decided to crack the windows as I had left it. She got back in the car and closed the doors. She did not realize the immobilizer did not need to be deactivated just to put the windows down, so she tapped the alarm button twice as if she were going to start the car. She then put the key into the ignition and turned it to accessory so she could crack the windows. She removed the key from the ignition and left the key in the car. She got out and started to put the cover on the car. She didn't put it all the way on BC the car was still hot. She moved a few things around, opened the door a few times and then started to walk away. She heard the doors lock. She then went back to the car and sure enough, it was locked. She left the keys in the car because I asked her to. Its parked in a safe garage at a house. Few people even know the garage is there. Only the owner knows there is a car in it. Theft is really not a concern.

Any idea why the doors locked on their own? I have a spare key here in NH that I will bring down when I go next so it isn't a problem.

Thanks!

I know the car will "relock" if you hit the immobilizer and don't turn on the ignition.

She said she turned it to accessory though so she could crack the windows. Its odd that it has never happened to me, I leave the keys in it at home all the time.

I can't remember the exact sequence of events, but I did have the car lock itself while the keys were inside the car once. Luckily I was home with the spare set in the house.

If you unlock the doors with the remote and don't open the door, it will relock after 2 or 3 minutes, can't remember which. I checked that feature.

You may want to look into hiding a spare key in the car: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...-got-ilko.html

I think hiding a spare somewhere behind a light is a great idea. Thanks for the idea!
