Question Euro Taillights...side marker

Due an incredibly generous rennlist member, I procured a set of euro tail lights

They do not have the side marker drilled out.

I have some questions:

1. to get the side marker light in there, do i need to take apart the light? Can you just drill from the back?

2. If it needs to be taken apart, does it need to be baked or is there another way? Regardless does anyone have the procedure. I don't want to break these things.

3. If someone has had a shop do this mod, what was the average cost?

Thank you in advance.

I've read your post a few times & I'm still not really understanding what you need... Probably just me.

See the pictures in this FS thread - is one of the lamp housings in your set 'capped'?

Just tuck the cabling away somewhere and use the Euro lights sans side markers. Thats what I'm doing when I pick mine up on the next visit to the UK.

Funny I got rid of the side markers on my US lights be wise they look ugly in my view. Why are you set on putting them in yours?

lol, I think the more visible I can be the better at night. Just the little red section seems a bit weak.

It would be much easier for sure to get rid of it, but just humor me on how I get this thing apart or in there.

If you look closely, the sidemarker light section is outlined but not broken through. I drilled a hole close to the size of needed diameter and dremel'd it out. It takes a bit of fine tuning as you need to edge out the noses for the cam lock. One minor issue is that there is no stop for the plug, meaning that when you insert the tabs and twist, you have no positive lock. If you twist too far, you can take the plug back out 180 degrees later.
I removed a bit less on the nose tabs to create more friction when inserting the plug. I did that 3 years ago and it's still solid.
Good luck with the install,
Ed

No, but you'll have to tickle out the little plastic pieces from drilling and grinding. I used a normal vacuum with a 1/4" air hose taped to it.

when you drilled through from the back, and got through the black plastic... is there another 'layer' of plastic after that needs to be drilled or dremmeled inside the housing itself?

a "blank" if you will

I'd prefer not to disassemble these things if at all possible, so I may give your method a shot.

I would rather add extra brake lights in the rear fog light sockets than those little bulbs on the side. Now that makes a difference.

The cutouts are already in the center reflector. They have dummy sockets in them that you can remove. Then comes the hard part - you need to find the reverse light harness along with sockets from another center reflector. That took me a while to source out. Once you have that you can tap into the brake lights to get power. Two 1156 bulbs later and you're all set.

It really makes a difference. Other cars don't stop as close to me as they used to
