Thanks for the heads up! I'm so tempted, but it doesn't say if it includes the security code.

Couldn't a dealer provide the code if unknown?

Yes, a USA dealer can provide the security code providing there is one.

My wifes MY00 Boxster had the CDR-220 with the Techequipment super duper HiFi door & dash speakers, including an external amp. It was a pricey option... and it wasn't all that great; good but not exceptional allthough light years ahead of the stand alone CDR-220 Boxster stereo. The 996 coupe could be Techequipment optioned with the same arrangement. Read expensive.

Yes, the CDR 220 is plug and play replacement for the CDR 210 that came in many 993s.

Two cautions; the standard faceplate on the 220 is difficult, if not impossible to see in a 993 due to the angle. Becker does a mod that remedies this. And second, the mount can must be removed when installing the 220 into a 993.

Why do people do it?
1 primarily the 220 has an aux input, which the 210 does not, so you can use an iPod or other MP3 player.
2 the annoying rocker volume control is replaced, as the 220 has a rotary dial.
3 maintains a factory look.

Honestly we are now at a technology point now, where wireless interfaces exist, so the wave of the future will be Bluetooth interfaces.

+1
There are many outboard DSP units which have both a triditional AUX and Bluetooth AUX inputs. SP-DIF digital input no less. The very nice Mosconi 6to8 DSP is such a unit.
http://www.mosconi-system.it

Take a stock Porsche/Becker CDR-210,,, add a DSP 6to8 unit and you're ahead of the class.

Is it plug and play for a CR-210?

Where's the Aux input? Do people wire it through the bottom of the dash?

Wouldn't you need the VIN# of the car it was orginally sold with to get this code?

Yes, plug and play for 210.
Aux input is additional plug in the back of the 220. Requires a special adapter from Becker IIRC.

I wired it so I can plug my iPod in and either put it in the glove box, sit it under the ebrake, or attach to a mount next to my shifter.

The an one engineering cable also has a mini plug so I can plug any mp3 in.

A few quick google searches and it looks like you can get the unlock code with a serial number. I just bought it.
