I found a really good way to get rid of my LWF/Clutch noise -Supercups!

man, i'm really on the fence about this. On one hand, I'd like the improved responsiveness, but on the other, its a street car that shouldn't make such crappy noises. It seems silly to put in a new DMF, but I don't think I want such blatant rattling.
anybody got a video of this noise.

The classic noise band is 1000-2500rpm at high load in a high gear (4th), so if you are crawling along in traffic and using the low end torque in 4th driving it like an automatic you will definitely hear gear chatter with a LWF.
I remember the first time I drove my 993RS CS with Marc on board - shocked at the racket from the gearbox coming through the bare painted rear deck he tried to persuade me to pull over immediately as he was absolutely convinced that the gearbox was falling out of the car.....

hmm, I don't remember now, but you're right, it didn't seem too bad.
Some people claim its very noisy though, and with my luck, that will prolly be the case on my car.

IMHO, the noise of the LWF is overblown, at least in the three or four cars, mine included, that I've heard (YMMV). The real noise from the gearbox comes when you install a solid transmission mount, but, even then, I like it for a track/race car. The noise from a solid trans mount might be too much for most.

I have been hearing those noises for the past 8 years and the descriptions are spot on. To me, it sounds like marbles spinning around in a tin can (faintly) and is noticable in neutral, up against walls, and always heard in the RPM range 1500-2000--around there.

I experience the noise as well. Only when the car is in neutral but disappears once the clutch pedal is engaged. Mechanic said its normal in cars with LWF. One way to distinguish if a car has a lwf or not, like a signature sound.

Good reading on how a clutch works:

Thanks to Vorschict and who ever had posted this before... Good section on DMF (pg 28) and why you want one (hint: prevents gear lash noise that the LWF has).
