I fail to see how/why many of you guys think a damaged-and-repaired car becomes a "great" track rat. Do you really understand what goes into making a track car? At least beyond the pony trot level. Or, is it all about that you've merely got non-original paint/panels, thus the car is deemed acceptable for "abuse"?

If it's a thought that you can have a cheap entry to driving on track, I guaran_______tee you that you'll be: 1. faster, and 2. learn more in nearly anything other than a 993 until you get into the $50K+ range. And that's pretty much DIY. Once you have to add in going archeological on previous repairs, it can become tedious. Provided, of course, you want to do it right. Which actually is a minority of the cars out there.

This was taken off a mountain road last summer outside of Seattle. it has just rained after a long dry spell. I thought it might be the same car, but now think this one is black.

As for track days, I think the perspective that a cheaper car with tired interior or a wrinkle in a panel would make a "good track car" is mostly that many can't bear the thought of taking any pristine car and subjecting it to the wear and tear and/or risks of regular, repeated track use. Any Carrera that has lasted over 10 years without even minor damage often becomes sacred in the mind of the car-guy.

Not the same plate as those were personalized, however the current plate was a newly issued i.e. in the last year so it still could be...

A salvage car may be okay for a daily beater but keep in mind that you're stuck with it. Values are typically around half and that's assuming it was rebuilt properly- few are, most are cobbled back together to try and turn a quick buck. I wouldn't want one for any sort of spirited or competitive driving unless I knew all details of the damage and verification of the rebuild process being done right- geometry is far too important to mess around with. 993's are still not exactly something that total for bumper hits, it's going to take repairs at least 50-80% of the car's value to total.
