New paint, what a treat! A front end with no road rash.
That is interesting. I was looking at mine earlier today, and it appears to have a small weld.

E I wonder if you're seeing a weld to an inner fender reinforcement? not to the cowl hinge pillar area?

I've seen several 993's with a weld at the end of the fender past the last torx bolt. Some of the cars had this weld cut, signifying the fender has been removed.

So, since his fenders have been removed for the paint job it will be an easy task getting the weather strip back in.

When I replaced mine I loosened the bolts hoping to get the fender away from the cowl to make it easy to get the new weather strip in. It was almost impossible to get these buggers in. I bought several sets of gaskets. I froze some, heated another set in boiling water and also tried a lubricant. I finally got them in with the lubricant method but they're not fully set low enough.

What puzzles me is....how do they do it at the factory??? The bolts and the weld are painted and yet they're is no paint on the gasket below...it's obvious they are installed after the car is painted.

I had the same thought, but I checked it again, and it appears to be a weld on the tip of the fender.

I stand corrected......it is welded. Phil has a trick where he leaves the weld in place and works the rubber part in with the bolt loosened.

I would love to know this "trick"

The cowl seals need replacing on my coupe. I have been putting off this job.

Why did you choose not to pull the glass? It seems like you are doing a top notch re-spray.

Regards,
Phil showed me how he will do it but I would never attempt on my own. Using a small pry bar and loosening the bolt, he works in the gasket using soapy water

No need to remove front and rear. Just remove the gasket and replace with new as the glass is held in place with adhesive. He did remove side glass.

Gonna be awesome! Are you planning to use clear bra on front end? What does everyone think? To bra or not to bra!

Cant put the clear bra on for a month or so. Not sure Id bother on a repaint. You can reshoot the front for the $600 it cost for a clear bra. If I am saving the original paint I would and have installed the clear bra. Or even wrap it a different color just to have a unique look. saw a flat white BMW Saturday that looked neat.

Good point on the repaint - hadn't thought of that- Makes a ton of sense. I once covered the entire front half of an '06 Boxster S when I first got it. It was nice to have it protected but it always bugged me for some reason - didnt feel right. Chips happen, it's just part of driving a car. I don't think I'd do it again. I'm over it. I do think it helped with resale however...

You are inspiring me to repaint mine!! Even though it is not original paint, I would have a clear bra installed on a fresh repaint, especially a nice job such as yours is.
