Original Colour of the 993 Engine fan
Hi
Does anyone know the original colour of the 993 engine fan as delivered from the factory?
Does anyone have the colour code?
I was told on the week end, it was a dull silver and not the grey brown that they are today.
Thanks,

Hi Keith,
Do you know what the colour of the new fan would be?
Can you describe the silver of the new fan?
I want to spray my fan the same colour.
Thanks,

+993 Dull silver and the paint is so thin it doesnt last. Ofter time it wears away to a tan. The metal used on the fans was so low quality (porus) to prevent heat transfer that getting a good surface is darn near impossble.

ToSi's new, silver fan looks exactly like my new one. It is not a match for polar silver, sadly for me...might be a little closer for you arctic guys.
I powder coated my fan housing, then had issues getting the new fan to rotate cleanly....it had some paint bumps on the ends from shoddy manufacturing. I ended up sanding down the end of the new fan blades using sand paper held against the fan housing while rotating the fan by hand. Starting with very thin, low grit (high number) paper and moving up to thicker stuff. sucked and took a long time. If I were to do it again, I'd probably paint mine myself and go very lightly on the inner barrel with paint.
As for the fan, you need to control the thickness there as well, so I might just go with hand painting that as well, when I get around to it. Look for a post by Andreas on the fan/housing painting.
Anodizing sounds like it might be an idea as well due to thin coating, but check on the magnesium(?) alloy fan's ability to hold onto the anodizing.

Hey, that is my fan! It was on my 3.2SS motor. I dipped it in some stuff (Ill look for the name) and then had the hub replated and then re-riveted it with alum rivets exactly like the factory did it. I really hat eit when people paint the whole fan and hub. And for the the fan now, it was just sold with the car and has made its way to So Cal....I miss that car!!
