Default Targa wheels question

I have Targa wheels on my 1994 C2 that I bought a few weeks ago - just had them off the car for new tyres (Hankook K110) and noted that the stamp on the inside of the wheels is Speedline - made in Italy. Did Speedline make the Targa wheels for Porsche? Or are these aftermarket wheels?

Speedline made a number of different wheels for Porsche, including Targas, AFAIK.

Your wheels look identical to the wheels on my '97 Targa. This design was standard for all 993 Targas, but available as a factory option on other models. It's interesting to know who Porsche's supplier was.

Yes, the speedline wheels are Porsche OEM. Nice ones! I had some on my former Targa.

Yes I'm very fond of the wheels myself - I think the only alternative I'd consider would be the MY02 wheels.

They would benefit from a tidy up and repaint as they're a wee bit scuffed and chipped, but since the car is my daily driver I think that perhaps it's better to leave them and get it done when and if I ever "retire" the car to weekend use.

You may find it difficult to refinsh these wheels. My understanding is that the bolts are not available. And the refinishers want to take the wheel apart to repair/repaint and want to use new bolts. No idea if that is true or not.

Run them and enjoy them!

Were these specific wheels made for Targas? Was it for weight purposes?

Yes, they felt that the roof was too heavy and the car would tip over if not given heavier wheels. They also used unique blinker fluid for Targas.

Worse still the blinker fluid is really expensive, if you can even find it. Just another example of Porsche taking advantage of owners.

Personally, I replaced both the top fluid and blinker fluid on my Targa with nuclear plasma to get that "extra kick".

The wheels can be refinished, we have a local finisher here who has done them for me, including disassembly and assembly. I think you can source replacement bolts, it has been mentioned somewhere on the list on the past.

cheers,

Mike

Do the tires mounted on these wheels use Targa specific air?

Yes. But you may want to consider getting the sought after RS air. Harder to get and very expensive, but worth it.

If someone knows the source for the wheel nuts and bolts please post. I have been searching and have not had much luck. Mine are looking a bit natty.
