993 headlight lense replacement
Can anyone help with info on 993 headlight lense repl. I got a good deal on some "oem" lenses made by Automotive Lighting (150 for both)They look great...and are identicle to the Bosch which were on my car. They attach to the base perfectly. Problem...the lighting unit on the right goes back in place with the new lense but seems to fit tightly. I flat out cant get the left unit seated back into place correctly with the new lense. Switched back to the old lense and the unit fits back in perfectly. Insights? Just a poor fit aftermarket part that I should trash. Or is there a trick I'm not aware of?

Exactly, the new gasket can make for a tight fit.
Push harder... it will seat.
Automotive Lighting is a line under the parent company Magneti Marelli
There is some relation to Bosch but I cannot recall what it is...
Anyhow, you likely have the exact same thing as the a Bosch labeled part
Where did you get them?

It's good to know I'm not the only one. All i can say is that i almost broke my thumb pushing (it actually blead). Pretty frusterating. But it wasnt just the gasket. It seemed like the whole assembly was out by about a centimenter. Strange. And i cannot tell any difference between the old and new lense pieces. They look identicle right down to the markings and numbers. Seat the same with the same gaps on the base unit. I'll reinstall the new lense and try again bf i give up and just take it to the mechanic. It'll be worse if i break something. Any other ideas or inputs? How does the joke go about changing a light bulb?
I searched the Internet far and wide for a good deal. I got this set from an individual off of Craigslist....believe it or not. Unfortunately it was his only set. He had purchased a few and then sold his car. Didn't need em. I've found Craigslist a decent site to find used or new parts...kind of like a swap meet thing. You can do a national craiglist search through a search engine...i just googled "national craigslist search" and went to the first one on the list.

Sometimes when removing the buckets, the actual plug in the back is moved and doesn't mate up/seat correctly. It can also be moved back far enough that they won't connect, and you'll think the bulb is dead. Check that.

my lens came off the housing.. to make it stick the best use windshield urethane to glue it back on.. tried a bunch of other glue, but this stuff is sticky and flexible enough to deal with the elements.

Its a 2 man job fitting lights back into the wings with new lens! One pushes while the other turns the locking fitting
Automotive Lighting have been the suppliers to Porsche for some years now
Bosch do not make any automotive lighting anymore, they stopped production some years ago

I just went through this about 4 weeks ago with Bosch brand lenses. Here was my waaaay too lengthy solution (but it worked):
I removed the front bumper which allowed for access........very limited access to the bolts that hold the plastic tracks that guide the headlight into place. I loosened all the bolts up until the were finger tight and the headlights went in just like they should (with limited effort). Once the headlights locked in place with the lock rod, I cinched the bolts back down and now the headlights pop in and out with minimal effort.
It was time consuming, but in the end it worked and I'm happy with that. This had obviously been an issues for a previous owner because the gasket on old lenses (also Bosch) had been cut down so the headlights would fit.

I recently replaced both of mine...I chipped the passenger side while installing HIDs and bought the replacement from here:
http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...adlight%20Lens
The older lens clearly looked age relative to the new one. Since autohausaz.com only had the passenger side in stock, i purchased the driver side from Sunset. I think it was about $115. So, 2 new lenses for about $180 plus shipping. That was the cheapest I could find for both sides...
