My first Porsche, first Rennlist post, & first question (re: internal reflections on
Hi everybody - just got my new (to me) 1994 993 C2 tiptronic in silver - and am loving it!
This forum has been a great lead up to buying the car - knowing what to think about and look for on 993s before purchase - and what to look out for once I own it. Thanks to all of you!
There's one thing bugging me about the car that I need to do something about - I bought the car from a dealer and their groomer cleaned and polished the car very well - but he has polished the top of the dash so it's too shiny and when I'm driving directly into sun it reflects a line of light onto the windscreen right in my sightline to the road.
So my question is, how can I take this shine off the surface of the dash top? Is there a way to make it a bit more of a matt finish?

Congratulations on the purchase of you new 993.
Great choice.
I would suggest s light detergent would probably fix your problem, dish washing detergent or car wash.
But don't wet your dash to much, just a damp cloth nda then wipe over with a damp, water only cloth.

Congratulations and welcome to the board! Neil's suggestion is good. Once the shine has been taken away, try using 303 protectant to protect the dashboard. It's a low gloss plastic/vinyl protectant and does a great job. I'm not sure if you can get it in New Zealand or not, but here in the US it's very easy to find. I'm pretty sure you can find it online and, hopefully, have a vendor ship it to you.

Sticky,
Congrats on your 993!
Getting the dash back to a "natural" shine isn't too difficult. See if you can find Meguiar's Vinyl Cleaner Natural Shine should take off the gloss and return it to a soft lustre. I've used it in the past too remove sunscreen from door panels and it worked great. As others have suggested, 303 is a very good protectant without much shine.

Congrats on your purchase, and welcome to the madness of the 993 board.
I am afraid I have completely failed to understand your dash board problems, I cannot seem to visualize a 993 dash at all...because...

As you guys can see, it's got the Targa wheels on it - 17" - which I quite like.
The brake calipers are red. Not sure if they're just painted red, or if they're the larger big red brakes and a previous owner has upgraded. I just don't know enough about p-cars yet - is there and easy way to tell? They do have the Porsche logo on them, front and rear.
