High time that this gets done, the car is still on the original suspension from 1998. Got the FSDs from Gert Carnewal in Belgium several weeks ago, along with new M033 springs and the front impact bar. Finally they are getting installed just over the weekend. Also using the opportunity to upgrade to Walrod bushings, can't wait to getting her back next week.

Congrats. That is going to be my winter project as well except I'm going with PSS coilovers in my C2S. Looking forward to the after shots.

 

Thanks, MartinC2S. I've done a lot of research on the suspension and arrived at the FSDs, the coilovers are surely a more advanced better system, but for my purposes I landed on the Konis. I'm sure your choice will be great! After shots will be posted, I am slowly returning the car to euro specs. Need a KMH speedometer, but they are hard (and expensive) to come by.

 

You can send your speedo to North Hollywood speedo, and they will change it over for you for not too much money. They quoted me a few years ago, and IIRC it was about $300.00.

That inner metric scale is difficult to read through polarized sun glasses.

New suspension is a great improvement over the original, especially given the years/miles/kilometers on these cars at this point

 

Thread update with a few pics from the install below. Initial impressions after a limited number of test miles: surprisingly little difference from the original, 24 K miles Monroes, I must say. I had expected a more noticeable change in the ride, having gone from Monroes and M030s to Koni FSDs, M033s, new bushings (unfortunately not the Chris Walrods - they are not TÜV approved, and the mechanic refused to install them, as it would disqualify me for the annual EU approval - bummer) and new tie rods. Going for a more spirited drive through some alpine passes tomorrow, I guess I'll get a more accurate impression of the Koni performance then. Car down to 144 mm, from US SUV. Looks much better, I must say.

The Konis were high on my list to replace my Monroes. Surprised they are not much different after so much positive feedback. Maybe they need some time to break in. Be interested to hear your impressions after a few more miles. May have to consider some PSS10s.

The C2S looks great having coming down from the USA SUV ride height. I'm curious what becomes of the newly installed Koni FSD dampers coupled with the C2S Euro spec M033 spring set. Good luck.

 

Looks great! New bushings, either way, will be a great improvement. I won't second guess your mechanic, but does the inspection really look at the type of bushings?

On passing the Euro-inspection and spotting the bushings: The fact that they are red makes them stand out. FD Motorsport has kindly agreed to swap them for some black ones instead. I should have thought of that earlier.

 

Nice stance. Are the rear shock bodies threaded also?
