Default rear seat delete?

Was there an option in 96' for a rear seat delete? If so, anyone know the option code for it?

I am looking at a 96' C4S, and the rear seat was deleted. Just wondering...

Thanks.

I think it was an option. It sounds like you have it,provided you have a platform with doors on the lower front, and not just missing seats. It is usually easier and cheaper to add the seats back,if you prefer, than to find a RSD.
Let me know if you want to change it back to seats

The option is M419 "rear luggage dump".

Does it look like this:

FYI, adding rear seats to a RSD option is nearly impossible.

Whoa. Didn't know this. I always assumed you could add just as easily as remove the rear seats. How come it's so hard?

There is no center seat belt buckle mounting holes and no seat brackets. In order to put seats in, you will need to find a donor car and do some cutting and welding. So... maybe at a junkyard, then at your shop! I like to have rear seats as I have kids that want a ride with dad!

Red96m3 -

Gotta luv the Carrera III wheel on the 993 widebody cars..

When ordering the 993 more than a decade ago, when asked about the interchanging the "rear seat delete" with seats I too was told it isn't so easy.
While I've never actually approached the task, my chicken **** mind say's run the idea to ground. A call to say Sunset Porsche Parts and you'd know for certain. MY.02 How could the RSD be nothing more than a choice of interior parts. Okay many interior parts.

Note to self: Read first, reply post to thread second. ^^^^

So the body in white is different btw the cars with and without rear seats & belts?
Go figure.

It is not impossible but you can see the amount of effort it would take. I for one cannot weld and not willing to modify something from the factory.

As they say in most things in life, it only takes time and money! ;-)

Yep, modifying the car for rear seats will be tough. And it's not just the seats - don't forget the seat belts. The mounting holes are there but are not threaded, you'll need a different rear deck as well for the retractors. Yep, time and money!

That was one of the reasons why I sold the RSA after my son was born. I wanted him to be able to ride in the car and it was just too big of a job to tackle.

This is the reason I ask, 2 young boys and they have ridden in every 911 that I have owned...

The rear seat in this car does not look like the above. I believe it might be a custom stereo speaker box now, which might be better or worse.

Does the car have rear seat belts? If it does, then its good. All you need are seats. The seats should be around $300 to $400.

If you have pictures, it may solve the uncertainty.

I took all of that stuff out to put in a RSD. Not sure if it is a good idea to sell it all or keep it.
