Funny thing is I got the C4 instead of the Carrera so that I can endure CO winters with the AWD variant. My mechanic talked me out of driving with salt on the roads. I am unsure of what I will do once our roads get salty.
It could mean that it sits in the garage for a few months? Oh Man!
SHS
It is the sand or sand/salt mixture that CDOT uses that is the real problem. Almost guarantee you will get chips on bumper/hood or in the windshield unless you are the only one on the road.
Of course the roads can dry out quickly here and driving is fine...just have to watch out for the leftover sand!
I've killed so many batteries between 2007 and now due to such low use my car now "lives" on a CTEK charger. I paid the extra few $ to get the quick-attachment so it's a totally painless connection. On the rare occasion I do drive, I immediately re-attach as soon as I'm back in the garage.
On a separate note, I'm hoping for nice weather this weekend in DFW so I can drive my 993!!!
If I do not drive it for a weak, the battery is week. After a couple of weeks, it probably would not start. I plug it in if it will be sitting more than a few a days.
sounds like you have a draw from somewhere...may want to look into this.
I drive my targa once every two to three weeks.
Couldn't put the car on battery charger due to circumstances, I installed a battery switch (see pic).
I basically turn the battery off every time I finish driving the car.
The battery is OK so far but I don't know if it is Ok to the car.
As a practice, longer than 5 days I put it on the tender. If longer than five days I pre-start the car with the DME pulled to get the oil flowing then start the car - worse case its a bit more wear on the starter.
These cars pull power when sitting there which is why, especially with a weaker battery, you might end up with a dead battery.
Mine sits for 2-3 weeks most of the time without being driven. My battery is 6 years old so I put a trickle charge on it a couple days before driving. The battery will lose a charge after a couple weeks of sitting.
same, sometimes up to a month(s), but it's always on a trickle charger, and my battery is about 6 yrs old..
Yeah, i avoid short trips in the car as well, it does not get warmed up and its all city traffic anyways - and tight parking lots. I need to get her out a bit to stretch her legs, and the will not happen on city roads.
Two approaches - one close the hood on the cord, if its flat enough it will be fine, or push the latch down on the front and the car will think the hood is fully closed.
Mine sits for 3 weeks, then it moves to another spot in the garage .
To avoid that the battery gets lazy, it's connected 3 weeks on the battery maintainer, then 3 weeks off.
Mine had to sit for two months this winter, battery not on charger, as there unfortunately is no power outlet in the garage. Started after three seconds once I fired her up in April, I was very impressed.
