C2S Valuation
I'm putting this post up with some trepidation given some of the responses to somewhat similar threads, but here goes...
An ex-boss is in his final days and his family is trying to get some sense of the values of his little car collection. The car of interest to this sub-forum is a factory ordered one owner 1997 C2S Arctic Silver, dark blue interior with 12,000 kM / 7500 miles (est), TIP. Although I haven't seen the car, it is most likely bone stock and immaculate.
I noticed some “interesting” threads on low mileage C2S’s but the TIP is a major buzz kill for me so I have no idea what to even suggest to them.
I’m sure I’ll get lots of numbers from you all, so I’ll score it like the Olympics and throw out the hi/lo and the score from the Russian judge.
Thanks
Jim

^^^ Oh my...even given Sloans known price points
BTW the car is most likely a "Canada" option car with kM only speedo
Thanks for the replies so far

I have seen a nice c2s, silver on boxster red interior, low 30k miles, carbon fiber trim, sold in the $33k range. The sloan car is overpriced by $20k+ imho, but it does the options I mentioned earlier.
Sloan car does have aero kit (many will not want this) with some interior trim add ons. Blue interior may not be as wanted either. Assuming full docs and proper maint. I would say 50-55 in the USA. You can try Reenlist first and work from there. If they are having are hard time selling or just do not want to deal with it given the circumstances you could approach one of 3-4 dealers that always are selling 993's.

All, keep in mind that this car is in Canada...the market there can command a 10-20% premium over prices south of the border.
My guess for this car would be $50k on the low end and $65k on the high end. I know this is a huge range...

You are talking about a 7,500 mile C2S. The low miles command a BIG premium! The Tip is a negative, but silver is always good on a P-car even if it's not as interesting as a rare color it's not one likely to put off potential buyers.
You may want to recommend the family consign it to one of the Porsche specialists... they will reach a broader market (worldwide perhaps) and end up getting good money. The family won't have to deal with the sales process. In that scenario they should get $60-65K minus the consigner's commission.

For $60k, I would buy a 97 with 30k miles with manual versus a 97 8k miles with tip. My $0.02.
Maybe $50k for the car is more in line?

I'm with you 100% in terms of personal preference... I'd rather have something I can drive... and that would be a manual with mileage that didn't cost me big on depreciation for every mile driven.
I love tips, and so do many people in europe, where automatics (in my experience) are not the lesser choice, but just a matter of preference...
Perhaps you could export it?
Starting price for a low-to-mid mileage S Tip in a nice color combo is seems to be 70-75 USD, a very low 75+...

I just bought back my 1998 C2S,Black w 22k miles in Canada althought it was originally sold in the US. Very rare to find Tips. When trying to sell, dealers will tell you they are worth $5k less but try and buy one, they want $5k more because they tell you they are rare. If I couldnt buy mine, Id def buy yours.
I may anyways, e-mail me @ avrum@videotron.ca
