Not a big fan either but if you do it, you need to place them in a different location, having them in the "middle" of opening makes it worse.
Here's a quick chop where they are on top of the openings following the curvature of the opening, this way it looks less homemade.

Not a fan either! LEDs stick out like a sore thumb on older cars...

Yeah, I agree it looks like "rice". Maybe molesting a set of factory fogs with LED rows would provide better results?
